There was a topic someone made on here once about everyone's top 101 games. I put a lot of thought into that list, but for the life of me I can never find that topic now. It didn't have the most obvious title

1)

Bloodwych (Amiga 500)

not only did this game introduce first-person Deathmatch
it was/is also the only Co-op Dungeon-Crawler out there
sure it may look like a Dungeon Master rip-off
but the Co-op aspects of it make this the greatest Dungeon Crawler of all time

2)

Boulder Dash (C64/PC)

sure First Star isn't really on the map of great designers, but the Boulder Dash series consists of never-ending, never-tiring gameplay mechanics, which hold up even to this day (the second-latest Boulder Dash for PC... treasure Island, I think; is as innovative and kick ass as the first)

3)

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. - Shadow of Chernobyl (PC)

this did not only breathe life into the genre, it completely revitalized FPS games, not only to me, but (apparently) to thousands of players across the globe
sure we have the sequel and prequel, but nothing ever comes close to the original in terms of atmosphere, gameplay and general awesomeness

4)

Rags to Riches (C64)

this is a widely unknown game, where you take the role of a bum, whose sole purpose of the game is to get a hair-cut, get a shave and get a job

the simplicity of the story, coupled with simple, yet responsive controls and a lot of various factors determined to stop you from achieving your goal, makes this game a must in any of my top 5 game-lists

5)

The Elder Scrolls II - Daggerfall (PC)

this game is to this very day, the single largest single-player cRPG experience of all time
a gaming-magazine traveled by foot across the map and it took them 2 weeks in real-time to get to the other end

you can buy houses, horses, wagons, ships and an abundance of weapons
there's thousands upon thousands of NPC's
thousands of dungeons and thousands of towns

this is the cRPG experience for OldSkool and NewComers alike

honorable mentions

the Ultima series (Age of Darkness) (Amiga/C64/PC)

spanning from IV-VI are some of the most thought out cRPG experiences out there
to follow the Avatar in the series as he travels back and forth from Britannia, all the while the world changes, he does not
truly engulfing story-lines and an excellent game-series in general
I mainly prefer the Age of Darkness, myself whilst others prefer the Guardian Saga, 'tis a matter of preference

Giana Sisters (Nintendo DS)

this remake of an old classic for the C64 was revived, revitalized and generally fit perfect for the handheld system

funny enough the first Giana Sisters was a rip-off from Super Mario Bros. and Nintendo pulled the game from the market back then
now it is released on a Nintendo console and it beats any Mario game out there

Quake (PC)

Quake 1
if you don't know why this is so awesome, then you're on the wrong planet and the wrong universe, please move along

Fallout 1/2 (PC)

Interplay/Black Isle truly breathed life into the cRPG genre with these games
their S.P.E.C.I.A.L. system and the multiple choices to complete the game, the Karma system... everything oozes quality from these games
if anyone wants to know why Fallout 3 is a piece of crap, ask me
I've spent about 1,000+ hours with it

any EPYX sport-game (C64)

EPYX ruled the sport-game genre with an iron-fist in the 80's
sport-games on the C64 brought kids from all corners together to play these games for hours and days at end
tournaments were all over the place and kids got quick reflexes from using the joystick and participating in the variety of sport-events available
C-64 will never die
- only the players
