They'll probably release a new agreement document that is 30 pages long and somewhere in page 23 they'll ask you to give them permission to publish your info.

Corporations will be asking you for your life's savings the way things are going.
Of course checking a stupid box is in no way a real legal contract, but if you complain Blizz says you said yes, and then you'd have to sue them which will cost lot's of money and time, and big corporations will just do everything they can to make the court case last as long as possible so you can't pay the lawyer and then they'll just offer you an out of court agreement (can't remember exact English phrase), you'll take it and everyone will be happy.

Funny how many people died in the French revolution and in WW2 for the sake of democracy and here we are giving away our rights so we can play a video game, or look at pictures of ex girlfriends over the internet.

Whoa, whoa, so not reading books by Charles Dickens is a sign of maturity and having a property upbringing? Admittedly I hated Great Expectations, but A Christmas Carol wasn't that bad...

lol did not pay attention when I made that post since I was sleepy. I didn't notice the ens and read "Someone needs to bone up on his Dick(insert extra letters to avoid saying dick)" and thought he said I shouldn't avoid saying that I'd hope he'd get killed.

Few things

If it is easier for child molesters to stalk their prey and contact young kids.....
Isn't it also easier to catch them as well? Seeing as their name is associated with their creepy PMs?

And how many people are pissed off at this idea because either
A) They ARE the douche bags trolling or acting like complete disrespectful idiots
B) They are afraid their name being associated with their WOW account will let people in the real world know just how much time they waste on the game.

Either way I think if done right it's a great idea and am looking forward to seeing it implemented on Xbox Live or other online gaming services.
Get rid of the anonymity and you will get rid of at least half of the douche bags in games.

Only one huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuge problem with your way of thinking. Facebook doesn't have anonymity, heck it has way less anonymity than just your name being public, since all your friends can see what you are doing, and it's still a huge playground for trolls. Every political or fan group in general is being bombarded by trolls.

So what has Facebook lack of anonymity done about trolling? Absolutely nothing.

Likewise with the forum. I'd like to think I've never trolled int he WoW forums, and instead help the community with good posts. But those forums will NEVER be seeing me again.

The rules are there for a reason. But blizz doesn't want to spend money on paying for forum mods, since it seams to be Activision's policy to spend as little as possible on game development, and pay as much as possible to it's executives (see the infinity ward fiasco and Kotick making way more than Iwata ), and instead chose this way to decrease it's forum userbase so it's easier (aka cheaper) to manage.

I'm sorry I can't see any other line of logic behind this.

And I'm sorry why do you think you can judge people about how they spend their free time?

Besides we've all watched porn, but we don't go around posting it on our facebook profile.

Also the first thing you said. If someone reports a user as a child molester, blizzard DOES have his information and can give it to the police. But making his name public only saves about 1 minute for the police. BUUUUUUUUT making a child's name public saves a LOT of time for the child molester.

Some real generalizations you're making there about people who are against this DaGamingMonkey. They're borderline offensive. Not that I'm personally offended by those comments. I'm just saying

I find it strange that some people so willingly accept things like this. A big corporation suddenly decides to take away people's privacy, change the rules of how things have always worked and people just say with a smile, "okay!!! Any other freedoms I can give away to you today?"

I guess being someone who is a big proponent of personal freedom and independence, it just doesn't make sense to me. I guess that's why I chose to follow Captain America in Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 for anyone who played that game and actually knows what the heck I'm talking about

Red herring. How private entities run their business is completely different from how the government runs things. The government can't abridge free speech, for example, but the moderation team here at Racket could with no repercussions (aside from potentially losing our membership).

Again, by giving my private information to a company I should have no expectation of privacy in the first place. Just like if I tell someone in real life my name and email there is nothing stopping him from subsequently posting it up around town.

Also, how is this giving away freedom?
B) Another really good example on why this is such a bad idea, employers google search those applying for a job. And believe me video games, and specially wow, aren't exactly something you'd put on your resume. So that might screw you over.

Speaking as someone who conducts interviews for his employer along with most of my coworkers, the mere fact you play video games (even WoW) is a non-factor in the hiring decision. Let me list out other things you wouldn't put on your resume:

Part of a bowling league
Expert fly-fisher
Amateur musician

The real thing to worry about with Google search is those drunken Facebook pictures you have up there.

I don't see the point. If they want to limit trolls, couldn't they just make it so you can only make a single account tied to your real name, but not actually post your real name? People are saying you can just make up a name anyway. If it is possible to make multiple accounts, then you can have multiple "real names" and still troll.
