What are you playing?
Re: What are you playing?
Matterfall. Pretty far in and not a long game. Super fun game! Feels a little like Turrican. Very arcade like. The OST is outstanding if you are into 80s synth sound. Just prepare to die a lot. It's platforming + bullet hell. Really sad they won't be making nay more games like this.

Is this your first EO game, are or you a veteran?
Sorry I didn't answer before! Technically my first EO game was the first, but I barely played it (this was years ago), EO4 is the first EO game I've played since then and the only one I've beaten. Persona Q and Strange Journey helped ease me into djrpgs.

Re: What are you playing?
After revisiting the quaint little town of Silent Hill (PSX), I was ready for something a bit more lighthearted. After perusing my backlog for a bit, I decided it was finally time to check out the Phoenix Wright series to see what all the hub-bub was about. So currently I'm playing though Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney on 3DS, specifically the Phoenix Wright Trilogy HD version. Partly due to the fact that I went in with fairly bog-standard expectations, I've been exceedingly pleased with this game. I'm not super huge into visual novels (I'll occasionally play through one just as a means of staying acquainted with the genre), but I'm really digging the hybridization of visual novel and adventure game as experienced in Ace Attorney. The presentation here is just top notch. The stories are clever and told well. The characters are sympathetic and engaging, and there are several genuine laugh out loud moments. If I can find any fault with this game, it's that I find the courtroom chapters a bit more engaging than the 'out in the world investigation' chapters, which is something that I never would have predicted. The courtroom segments are just so unique to this game and maintain a rapid fire pace of plot development, whereas the investigation chapters feel a bit more like things you've done in other similar games. It's a very minor complaint though, because once again this is just a super well executed game. I also find Ace Attorney to be a very relaxing game (moreso during the investigation segments), and more than once I've fallen asleep while playing it before bed, lol.
The other game I'm playing at the moment is Metal Gear on the NES (which I've beaten several times in the past). This might be nostalgia talking, but I have a great fondness for this game. For all the convoluted directions this series has gone (and perhaps maybe because of them), there's just something utterly charming about the simplicity of this title and all the quirkiness it brings. Possibly one of my top 10 favorite NES titles, but definitely one of my top 20.

I'm going through my second playthrough of Doom 2016. I first played through it last year on PS4, but I'm going back through it on Switch to compare the two. Gotta admit, while the sacrifices are obvious, it holds up REALLY well on a portable.

I really enjoyed the first AA. However, AA2 and AA3 were disappointments for me. It'll be interesting to see your thoughts on those, compared to the first. I still maintain the best adventure games on DS are by CiNG; Hotel Dusk, Last Window, Trace Memory, and Again*. If you've not played Hotel Dusk I strongly recommend it.
*Again isn't in the same league as Hotel Dusk, Last Window, or Trace Memory, but it's still good.

Hotel Dusk is great. Loved AA2 and 3. Funct fact. I once played AA on my DS while waiting to be escorted to court from the DA's office as a witness to a crime. It wasn't on purpose. Wasn't till after I realized.

Thanks Exhuminator! I remember you talking about Hotel Dusk and Last Window at some indeterminate time in the past and thinking this sounded like a series I would probably enjoy. Thanks for the reminder! The others I'm not at all familiar with. All have been added to the list!Exhuminator wrote:I still maintain the best adventure games on DS are by CiNG; Hotel Dusk, Last Window, Trace Memory, and Again*. I can only hope that you shouted 'HOLD IT!' at random points in your testimony while pointing at officers of the court.Segata wrote:I once played AA on my DS while waiting to be escorted to court from the DA's office as a witness to a crime. It wasn't on purpose. Wasn't till after I realized.

Bulk Slash. The only shooter I have on SS. Love the game. OST is fantastic. Controls take getting used to. Pre analog 3D games, yeesh.
