Of course the future is a big unknown, but I thought it would be fun to get people's ideas on where it could all head. Bonus points for creative thinking and avoidance of cynicism.

I'm just curious to find out what you guys think will happen to the medium in the next 5-10 years. What's fad, what's here to stay? What prototype ideas will become mainstream? What can you imagine happening?

Five years ago gaming left me in the dust, so I became a retro gamer. In 5 years I will have a nice and hefty retro collection. In 10 years I will have had to sell it all because Republicans destroyed the economy.

I forsee an even bigger shift to online focus and downloadable content. Which is gonna me a retro-only gamer, probably. I enjoy my secluded single-player (or at least co-op) campaigns and physical media too much.

In five years I see the 3DS overcoming its problems, the vita not meeting expectations, and the wii U not selling as much as the wii did but still profitable. In ten years I see the sony games division closing due to loses.
In my 100% pure cynicism crystal ball I see everything is a download with DRM that requires a constant internet connection and once a month house calls and somehow I signed away my soul to Activision. They keep it in a pickle jar.

I agree with this unfortunately. I see myself buying less and less new games every year because of this nonsense. Eventually I think I'll be a purely retro gamer.DinnerX wrote:In my 100% pure cynicism crystal ball I see everything is a download with DRM that requires a constant internet connection and once a month house calls and somehow I signed away my soul to Activision.
