Sin & Punishemnt 2 - color me interested, but rail shooters in 2009? Are we witnessing the birth of a new trend?

I really don't feel that japanese games are helping with the whole idea of games not being just for kids anymore.

As for teens / comming of age / young hero stories in j-rpg's - it's a well known fact that games featuring those themes will sell well (at least in Japan), becasue, well people like to play them (or at least think they like them) and game companies always want to play it safe. Who cares if that story was told million times before, that doesn't matter - what matters is the fact that you can't go wrong with them. Blame square/enix for all that ;)

Kiddy character in S&P2? I do not really care, right now I want to know some more details about storyline and why he's there. But we can make a safe bet that S&P2 won't be another j-rpg :)

I had a lot of trouble with the controls as well. Glad I wasn't the only one.

This is why the theme doesn't particularly bother me - simply by being a rail shooter, it will avoid many of the cliche trappings that jRPGs fall in.

I honestly don't want a sequel to Radiant Silvergun ("Project RS2" doesn't count because it is different enough) and I would be happier if the handheld remakes didn't exist.

Franchises make money because there is an established fan base. I don't fault them for trying to make money...Treasure has never been as commercially successful as they should be. Since their games kick ass, I don't see how sequels could let me down. And whoever said Treasure was making a sequel to Radiant Silvergun? All I've read from statements by Treasure employees is that they are making a new shmup, and it is being worked on by Treasure's shooter team(naturally, the same team who made RS and Ikaruga). I'm confident that it will be a sequel in spirit only, just like Ikaruga.

You're complaining about Kingdom Hearts - the game Square teamed with Disney to make - for containing children?? Last time I checked, Disney was the preeminent authority in trying to make people feel like kids again...

You guys actually reminded me of the forward to Speaker of the Dead. One of the key points that Orson Scott Card touches upon is that the reason so many stories have characters who are around the teenage years is that it is easier to get a reader to believe that the character would go on such an adventure. A child is obviously too young, while once a character gets to a certain age, they are expected to do things such as settling down with a family, establishing roots with a career, etc. The teenage character is still finding his place in the world, which gives him the freedom to act in ways that other age groups simply can't.

I was just saying that some people wish there was a sequel to RS, while I am happy there isn't. I understand this is a business, but still they seem to have lost a bit of originality. I would rather pay money and support a team who is constantly creating completely new experiences (action and shooter titles only, of course, none of that other crap  ).

When is the last time Treasure redefined action like they did with Gunstar? When is the last time they redefined the shooting genre? Their fighter (Bleach) games are great, but hardly earth-shattering. Only their 360 shooter will set my mind at ease. It will be the greatest game ever made, save for the holy RS itself.

Sin and Punishment II looks jaw dropping with hires textures and bloom lighting. I can't wait to try it out.

Well it's another thing to look forward too on the wii (one of the few)

Btw, I thought about getting sin and punishment for my n64, am I correct that n64 only has a physical lockout so if I stick a gameshark in first I can play it?

If any of you guy's ever beat the first game watch the credits, that kid you're all complaining about is actually Saki and Airan's son. Also sin and punishment was originally slated to have a sequel on the N64 but due to the development delays of the original and it's release during the twilight of the N64 Treasure had it canned.
