SFII SNES Re-Issue & The Vinyl-ization of Retro Games
Re: SFII SNES Re-Issue & The Vinyl-ization of Retro Games
I can't help but wonder if that fire warning isn't some kind of joke related to it being a "hot" game in a red cartridge. Maybe people are just missing the joke.

Why would anyone interpret it as not a joke? My assumption is that it's simply a colorful "this is a reproduction cartridge" statement that'll replace the standard message on the back label.

I agree they could've at least picked a game you can't easily pick up for a few bucks on eBay. But I'm sure there are enough suckers that'll buy it.

WOW. $100 they will make a cool half Million on this deal. GREED

Turns out there's a reason for that "fire" warning on the cartridge, and it's not a joke.

Basically, modern memory chips are 3v instead of 5v. It's not hard to bridge that difference safely with a little extra circuitry, but that does generate heat, and because of that mismatch, they have to have a fire warning.

So I and various others were right, lawyer speak to CYA against any one off random problems that could break a system or cause a fire. I never thought it was a joke, seemed just too serious to be funny.
The article closes that more to come in 2018 so it should be fun to speculate what Capcom is up to next as they have a wide variety of titles to pull from on both the NES and SNES which INL makes boards for that iam8bit uses in their projects.

Interesting. Per the comments, it's also a thing for Everdrives and the like.
