Saturn is my biggest point of interest.

Anyone heard the verdict on burned games from any of these YouTubers? I'm curious if Polymega took the time to re-implement copy protection mechanisms in their custom HLE BIOS for Sega Saturn and PlayStation. Some fan translations, such as Persona 2 Innocent Sin, have custom patching software that has to be applied to a disc image and then burned to a CDR.

My guess is they aren’t going to take the effort but also not make suggestions so they can stay as legit as possible.

I would say MOST require special patching on Saturn. Neither the Shining Force III scenarios nor Dragon Force II translations are as simple as ips patches (and DFII has 2 disc versions).

And I'm going to mention Dezaemon 2 again. The Save Game Managers (1-4) require a burned disc to get the saved data on to the memory cart. How it this game truly supported any other way? (I suppose someone could hack the data into a save file maybe?)

That game needs to be addressed.
(Unless they are more like "hush hush" and let you do it on the downlow.)

Still, I'm looking forward to just having games on there that I own anyway. I have a Rhea for my other necessities.

Yeah my guess is that burns will likely work on their HLE BIOS but not if you sideload the official BIOS on PS1 and Saturn. We will probably find out for certain soon enough as more content creators get their hands on the beta units.

As a reminder, today is the last day to preorder the console and modules at $299.99 & $59.99 respectively. Tomorrow they will be available at Wal-Mart.com and Amazon JP for preorder and the cost goes up to $399.99 and $79.99.

Polymega posted an update on their site today. The big takeaways are:

Beta1 is over and many issues have been addressed.
Beta2 is starting later than anticipated due to covid supply chain issues
Street date is getting pushed back a month as a result. We are looking at early August now.
Polymega is going to be compatible with as of yet unnamed game streaming services for current gen games.

So I watched a review from MVG on the Genesis add on. I have to agree... it's a pretty expensive ROM dumper. You can use it once, then the standalone base unit plays the "cart" games.

If... when... this thing gets hacked the cart add ons will be collecting dust.

I agree with the general consensus that disc based systems are the draw.

If you have a huge collection of disc games I can see the interest in this prebuilt emulation system but with the Pi 4 out I'm more interested to see the advancements in retropie builds.

Whelp, I guess I'll get my Neo SD Loader before I get to try them on the polymega.

I'm glad I've often taken the earlier options on things. For all the Polymega does, I have digital options for every other CD system (except the mentioned Neo CD, and even that is substituted with many PS2 ports).

Still, I do hope this eventually comes out. I still say there would be a charm to putting my actual collection on there.
