I wonder if there's a workaround there. The Retron 5 won't accept those translation patches with special requirements... but you can create a new patch out of a pre-patched ROM, and then have success. Those are .ips patches for cartridges, I dunno how different ISO based stuff is.

https://www.polymega.com/2019/06/05/light-gun/

$99 light gun compatible with all systems supported by Polymega. No setup or sensor bar needed. Just plug it in via USB and it works. They partnered with a recent Kickstarter to get this made. Polymega is charging approximately what it cost to get one from the Kickstarter.

This could be what finally causes me to get rid of my CRTs. Very cool tech indeed!

Some solid info coming out of E3. MVG had a hands on & got answers on emulators licensed. For those of you that maybe don't know, MVG ported several emulators to oXbox, 360, & Switch. Sure I'm missing more. There's a good possibility many of us have played games on his conversions. Reputable source. 'Nuff said there. Vid:

Awesome to see Snake back out programming KEGA!

We might see an honest-to-god release date soon! Like maybe for realsies this time. https://twitter.com/polymegaHQ/status/1 ... 9897047041

EDIT: 12-16-2019 is showing as the availability date if you try to preorder now. That is an oddly specific date and doesn't seem like a placeholder. Maybe early backers will see theirs sooner?

So Polymega's "big update" has been coming soon for over a month now. I don't think they actually got their 14nm Intel CPUs. I think they are doing another hardware revision to use more readily available CPUs. I believe they are holding off on this "big update" until they have all aspects of the new revision worked out.

I haven't been following Polymega in quite some time. All I know about their current status is what you post here. So any opinion I have is based on limited information.

That said... they only have one shot at a first product launch, right? I'd rather they take an extra six months to launch a product right, rather than launch a product that doesn't work.

Don't get me wrong; I've been skeptical of Retroblox since the beginning. A lot of their early claims were over-promised things they couldn't possibly deliver. Things like "hybrid emulation" always sounded far-fetched to me.

If anything, compromising their way around potential roadblocks (like CPU availability) sounds like something a responsible electronics company has to do. This sounds better to me than some random kickstarter who promises the sky.

At this point they might do better sourcing from AMD, but if the emulator authors they paid have made any Intel-specific optimizations, that could cause additional issues.

I wholeheartedly agree. I'm just salty over their definition of "soon". Especially so since I preordered in October 2018.

So here is the update https://www.polymega.com/2019/12/08/pol ... e-arrives/

The big take aways are:

- They will start shipping in the next 90 days
- lots of translation patch formats will be supported. IPS, PPF, UPS, BPS, XDELTA, XDT, and XD.
- They are adding an analog stick to their light gun for reasons.
- They are finalizing a retail contract with someone. Preorders will end very soon as a result.

And from Twitter, they said that people who preordered will be able to apply for a beta program to get theirs sooner. I will most certainly apply and if selected, I will post my impressions assuming that there is no NDA.

It's where the hammer would be in a revolver, right? It would be cool if you could reload by just flicking that analog stick.
