haha, i'm just the opposite, in for the genesis cable b/c my snes is model 2. i've always used a 3rd party cable from gamestop for the snes though and it looks great, even just through component, but my genesis always looks like so rough - will be grateful for any amount of additional clarity.

Hmm. I've heard mixed reports. Some people say Genesis 3 has RGB, others say it doesn't. Not like Sega is going to tell us whether all units do, none, or in between.

It is the same format, just in 2 RCA cables, not the s-video plug. The fact it was a computer that cost $600 at launch versus $150-200 for consoles around the same time made a big difference too. But you pretty much had to buy a Commodore monitor to get that quality picture.

I remember when the C64 came out, yeah it was around 600 bucks I think $699.99. For its day, a great price at the time for just a 1mhz computer! As a Vic20 owner, I held off buying a C64 until it dropped to 200 bucks, now you can get a tablet with so much more power for a lot cheaper. Still like old Commodore, have a 128D sitting at the desk with 99% use in the C64 mode.

That computer came out in 1982, a shame the duel RCA did not become the standard for SVideo which became the single 4 fragile pin connector. It would be interesting to see how many TV models did offer SVideo when the Genesis came out since SVideo first appeared in 1979. Still wonder why the Sega Genesis which came out years later in 1988 (1989 in the US) RGB was offered and not including SVideo since the RGB required that expensive alternate monitor instead of the readily available TV with SVideo.

If the 4 pin connector was standardized in 1987, that explains no svideo.

Non-amplified RGB was already present on the Mark III, then amplified for Master System. They likely didn't see a reason to remove it.

My Model 3 Genesis does RGB, actually a guy on the Sega Collectors FB page didn't believe me, saying I was making it up because his Model 3 didn't do RGB. So my guess is not all model 3s can do RGB, must of been multiple production runs and was most likely removed in later versions as yet another cost savings measure.

Well coming out & adoption rating are two different things. Laser disc came out in the late 70s (76 IIRC?) but you didn't see them in many homes until much later. svid very similar
