Yeah I suck, I know. I just hate when developers randomly throw some new and frustrating mechanic at me out of nowhere and I lose all interest in playing a game.

Maybe I'll pick it up again someday.

The Mako ("this car thing") is not in 2 or 3, so maybe start there.

I loved the Mako. I find it amusing that the warthogs in Halo never got the amount of hate that the Mako did, especially when the Mako is more powerful and easier to use. The planet scanning and hovercraft missions they replaced the Mako with in Mass Effect 2 were crap.

There's a stark difference between Mass Effect 1 and its sequels

Mass Effect 1 flirted with third person shooter mechanics, but still leaned heavily on rpg mechanics. It was a game that looked like a shooter, but could be played like an rpg, particularly if you played as a class with biotics (Mass Effect speak for "magic")

Starting with ME 2 they toned down the rpg elements dramatically and started falling in line with the rest of the industry and made the game feel much more like a standard, Gears of War inspired, cover based shooter. Rpg elements were still a tactical part of the game, but not its focus. And anyone who gets into this series needs to prepare themselves for one of the most awful trilogy endings ever. Rarely has any game started up as much of a shit storm in the press as Mass Effect 3 did with its ending.

I tend to hate forced vehicle segments in games that aren't primarily about vehicle combat in general.

Male, UK, '85-'89

1. Final Fantasy VII
2. TLOZ: Ocarina of Time
3. Half Life 2
4. Metal Gear Solid
5. Mass Effect 2
6. Resident Evil 4
7. Fallout 3
8. Deus Ex
9. GTA: San Andreas
10. Final Fantasy X

I've played about half of the games on this list, but I'm not especially taken by many myself. I'm surprised by a few of them - I didn't realise Deus Ex was so popular. There are obviously more PC gamers in the UK than I realised.

Right? I'm glad it wasn't just I.

What exactly is so bad about the ending? It seemed to me like people were upset that it didn't tie everything up into a neat little ball, and that just sounds ridiculous to me that it would incite such backlash. (Full disclosure: I haven't played anyone of the Mass Effect games.)

I have to wonder if people would petition for the same kind of thing if a movie like "Hud" were released today.

4: The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
5: The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time

7: Fallout 3
8: Portal
9: Super Smash Bros. Melee
10: Super Mario 64

Huh. Half of these I haven't played. Two are members of the same series. One I haven't played but want to. So that only leaves... Three games on this list I've played. Yippee!

Oh wow a Unik G thread. I've been on that site for a year now and just to let you guys know before June or July the list was a lot different. The site got a shoutout on a popular youtube channel and we got a whole bunch of new people. Then the list totally changed. Like Skyrim and Minecraft weren't in the top 50. And portal 1&2 weren't in the top ten.

That list will be gone in a few months when they launch the new site. I'm Beta testing the new Site and the new list looks a little better.

It's done by each user, you can rank up to 25 games. Each game is given a certain amount of points depending on where you put it in your list.

So let's say a users list was like this
1-Sonic 2 (+25)
2-The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time(+24)
3-Shadow of the Colossus(+23)
4-Chrono Trigger(+22)
5-Final Fantasy VII(+21)
6-Super Mario World(+20)
7-Metal Gear Solid(+19)
8-The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask(+18)
9-Final Fantasy VI(+17)
10-Super Metroid(+16)
11-etc(+15)
12-etc(+14)
13-etc(+13)
14-etc(+12)
15-etc(+11)
16-etc(+10)
17-etc(+9)
18-etc(+8)
19-etc(+7)
20-etc(+6)
21-etc(+5)
22-etc(+4)
23-etc(+3)
24-etc(+2)
25-etc(+1)

This is in no particular order, just putting them in as I think of them :D

Lufia & The Fortress of Doom & Lufia II
Legend of Zelda: A Link to The Past
Pokemon - no preference on which color/version as they are generally the same.
Final Fantasy VII
Final Fantasy IV
Dynasty Warriors Gundam 1-3

That is all I can think of at the moment.

Man, it's like PC gaming in the 1990s doesn't even exist for these people.
