Agreed. Gotta do the true final boss of Other M.

I know there was quite a bit of dislike for Other M, but I happened to have enjoyed it. To be honest, I would gladly take another Metroid game in that same style.

I'm sorry, but all of this stuff is adding up and it's really hindering my enjoyment of Red Dead Redemption. There is a fantastic game underneath but there's all this broken stuff on the surface.

During an escorting mission this happened:

Image

Every time the horse makes progress, the other carriage moves, getting rid of all progress. I did something that made me feel very guilty and shot the horses. Then this happened:

Going the wrong way! The previous glitches were at least funny but this is just annoying. I forgot to record most of it, but I have at least 3 minutes of footage. I swear it was like another 3-4 minutes before I realized I wasn't recording and the same stuff was happening.

The texture loading also always gets me You have to look closely at the cliff but you can see the difference. It pops up in your face and makes you focus on it every time it happens, and believe me it happens often.

Then this happened. Had to make a video. Will make a URL as it's like 20 mb.

I'll obviously still finish the game and perhaps make a video review of it, but I will have to decrease its score. I know there's no support for it anymore, but I still had to download some patches when starting it, so some of these should have been fixed like a year after release.

That mission was so tedious without glitches. Ouch.

At least Dickens is a very entertaining character.

Playing in the dark with headphones...Alan Wake is so scary! I’m not used to this! I just finished episode 1, and I’m really enjoying it so far. Satisfying gunplay; solid story; great soundtrack. Hopefully, it’ll keep up!

EDIT: Also, my dog, who’s sleeping on the couch next to me while I’m playing, throws in a nice touch where, right as I start hearing the enemies’ ghastly voice, she suddenly rouses from her sleep, starts staring behind us, and emits a low growl. There was nothing back there, of course. (Or...was there?!) But, it nonetheless spooky enough for me to say, “Nope!” and quit for the evening.

I started to play Super Mario Galaxy 2 this weekend, my daughter saw me playing the first boss and immediately asked if she could play. So I put in Mario Galaxy 1 and she hasn't put it down all weekend. So... I think I will have to find another game to play this month.

I'm about two hours into Other M now. It's far from a perfect game. Early on there were parts that were so dark, that it was hard for me to fully make out the environment. I even tweaked TV settings, but it didn't help much. Luckily, once I got the power on in the area, it made things better. Also, I don't love the thing where you have to switch to first person view by pointing at the screen with the Wii remote. I find that transition awkward. Like going from playing it 'controller style' to 'light gun' style feels weird and jarring to me in the middle of combat.

That said, I still find it a totally interesting game. And I'll always say that I'd rather play a somewhat-bad-but-interesting game over a just-good-but-boring game. So there's that.

Yes, it's super linear. This has been a complaint since launch. But at the same time, it's still not always obvious how to proceed. There's often little crevices to get into in morph-ball form for instance. And I must say, rolling around Monkey Ball style is actually quite fun.

I do like the visuals quite a bit as well. There was a section where there was a sort of virtual reality nature section with waterfalls and stuff. It was really nice looking - almost a kind of Pandora thing going on there. And some of the alien life is very cool to look at.

I also appreciate the well distributed save spots - something that the linear nature has afforded. I don't need to backtrack a lot to find a save place, which is handy given that I have a baby in the house. So in a lot of ways I can tackle this game in pretty short chunks, which is helping a lot.

Amost a free man in Gladiator Begin now!
If you want to know how it feels to be slaughter machine this is your game, they trully nailed the weight and feedback in combat.
The amount of skills, weapons, styles and combination of armour outshine the grindy portion of the game, every combat in the arena has that sense of wonder of a new set of armour or weapon to enhance your gladiator, what a gem of a game guys!

I finally got stuck into my game for the month this morning. I started up Ys: The Oath in Felghana.

I guess it's actually kinda cheating:
- It's a remake, so obviously the original existed before 2010
- The PAL version actually came out in 2011 (the Japan and NA versions were 2010 though!)

But whatever, I wanted a portable title I could start on my commute.

So far it's OK. I forgot how much the PSP graphics have aged these days for sure, but the audio is pretty great as you might expect. Voice acting is a mixed bag - none of it's awful but a lot of it seems meant for a more cartoony game than this.

Gameplay is fun enough so far - I'm in the second dungeon looking for a priest though, and most of the enemies here are really annoying - especially all the flying enemies who are hard to hit and swarm me en masse.

I'll keep playing this on my commutes, but I may also start up Other M on Wii if I get time.
