Resident Evil 2. So this is a thing that happened last night. In the process of escorting Ada through the sewers, Leon was shot (non-fatally) by an unknown assailant. So here's Leon, bleeding and knocked unconscious, in an area packed to the gills with flesh eating zombies, and Ada using her impeccable skills of risk assessment decides, "Oh I'm sure this will be fine. I'll just leave him here. UNCONSCIOUS. AND BLEEDING. This will not attract zombies. Like at all." WTF ADA!?!?!?!

Thus begins the fun sexual tension between the two.

Really just wish Capcom would finally give us a game with them both playable/paired up.

I don't think "fun" is the word I'd use, personally. I kind of hated Ada by the end of Leon's A-side, and Leon is a dumbass. Should have just been Claire in RE 2.

Not too late to join the party, I hope!

Having only beaten Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 4, the fact that I have never made it all the way through the Spencer Mansion has always bothered me. Well...tonight i started Resident Evil, and it’s a masterpiece. The design in this game just shines, and it is amazing how far it pushes forward the groundwork laid by Alone In The Dark. (Resident Evil is to Alone In The Dark what Super Mario Bros. is to Pitfall.) I am employing my usual survival horror tactic of (1) exploring and dying a lot before (2) making a really efficient run though a long portion of the game and (3) saving. So...not much real progress tonight, but I laid the groundwork for a run through the first and second floors of the mansion tomorrow (or later tonight if I can’t stand it).

Finally, I am playing “classic mode” on Resident Evil Deadly Silence (NDS). It is a pretty great way to experience the original game, and based on what I’ve played so far, I have no concerns with the port. I’m also looking forward to playing through the Remake someday, but I am going to save that version for later.

(Sorry it's so fuzzy... best I could find of the original label.)

I played through Jack in the Dark recently. It's a footnote in the Alone in the Dark series' history. You play as a little girl trapped in a haunted toy store on Halloween. It's a puzzle oriented real time adventure game. Thoughts here.

I also beat 2008's Nanashi no Game on DS, but it falls outside Ack's scope for this TR dang it.

When I get back from vacation next week, I plan to finish Silent Hill 2... hopefully before October is over. :?

I kind of wish I'd done the same. It seems like just closing the 3DS clamshell and suspending the game would be a nice workaround for having to worry about ink ribbons to save. The result has meant that I've played RE far less than I've wanted to this month because I'll really only fire it up if I know I have like a solid two hours to play in a sitting. Sigh.

You should track down a copy. Classic mode is a surprisingly great port of the original game - those costumes! that FMV! - and it also has a remixed mode that adds some features that utilize the touch screen and microphone.

The DS version has the FMV's? Dammit, yeah it'll have to go on my wishlist then haha.

DS cartridges went up to 512 MB, which is almost as much storage space as a CD. And since the DS screen is pretty low resolution, those FMVs were probably nice and compact.

Yep. The port actually looks really good and plays perfectly. (It has the quick turn too!) If anything, I need to turn down the brightness a bit on my 3DS so it doesn’t look too sharp.

Also...jump scares still work on the small screen, and the dogs smashing through the window still made me leap...EVEN THOUGH I KNEW THEY WERE COMING WHEN I ENTERED THE HALLWAY. When I almost jumped out of my skin, my wife looked across the couch at me and asked, “What are doing over there?”
