How much work?

You have to track down all of the collectible scarabs in the game on easy or normal difficulty. They aren’t easy to find, and some are missable. (I got 49 out of 50 on my first playthrough when I played through it a few years ago...) If you are thinking about going for it, I suggest: (1) making sure the unlockable game will work on an Xbox One; and (2) using a walkthrough to make sure you don’t miss anything.

oh, a collect-athon? I'm all set then. There will be plenty of other games for me to pick from already. I mean, I already have a bunch of stuff on Xbox that'll fit this theme. My wife really enjoys beat-em-ups so I'm sure I'll be doing lots of co-op stuff in June. Plus I feel like something arcade-y will be a nice mix-up. I'm struggling with even getting into this month's TR - first because the game took me two weeks to get here, and now because I've had so so so much happening this month that by the time I can find the free time to play my brain is too fried to get into a new longer game. Maybe I'm partly discouraged that I'm two weeks behind also. I don't know. I'm not giving up on that one, though I just need to find a bit of time where I'm able to focus.

And I just realized I'm rambling. Sorry.

So off the top of my head... I know I've got all three Streets Of Rage games, Guardian Heroes (meh), um several Battletoads games are on the Rare Replay. So those are all options I already own. There's probably more on the Genesis collection that comes out at the end of May. I wonder when that Kunio collection is coming out?

If anyone wants to play something really weird, try out Breakdown on XBOX. It's a first-person game that starts as a shooter, but eventually morphs into something like Super Punch-Out!!, with some crazy abilities for the main character. (And the inability to effectively combat multiple enemies, but let's not talk about that.)
Hardcore Retro Gaming - Talk about games ten years old or older. Now with a modern gaming section!

Breakdown is a rather unique game, and is the THE reason I originally bought an Xbox all those years ago. But what you describe in the quote is what made me ultimately stop playing it. Crowd control in Breakdown is cumbersome to say the least, especially late game. Breakdown's still worth experiencing because of its idiosyncratic nature however.

I'm pretty stoked for this next TR, I'm practically overwhelmed with options for this one. 8)

I haven’t been on in a while and missed the vote but I like where it landed! I might play Scott Pilgrim again, and I’ll definitely play some Turtles III on NES.

Streets of Rage was free on Xbox this month too so I might play some of that.

I’ve got the Simpsons, Ninja Turtles (original not that awful remake of Turtles in Time) and X-Men on my 360 but I don’t know if I’ll get around to hooking that up.

We did Guardian/Gunstar for TR one year and I couldn't get into Guardian. Same with those Capcom D&D games.

I mean I'm a fan of other beatemups... Streets of Rage, TMNT, Kunio, etc.

Well hot damn. I've beaten a fair amount of the beat-em-ups that I have, but there are still a number I could work on finishing. I guess since I have Streets of Rage on my summer challenge list, that's an obvious place to start. I have the two TMNT beat-um-ups on the NES that I could play. I could finally give Golden Axe III more than a passing glance, for once, even though I've never played Golden Axe II. I know I've beaten The King of Dragons on the Capcom Classics Collection, but I think there might be one or two others on those that I haven't beaten. I've also put a lot of time into Tenchi o Kurau II in the past, and could try to actually beat it again, even though the final stage is a freaking death-pit, and the limited continues make that a really tough task.

Just some thoughts for others who might be emulating with MAME: Don't neglect the Konami library. There's a bunch of (probably) quality games that weren't ported to consoles, like Bucky O'Hare, Metamorphic Force, Asterix, Violent Storm, Vendetta (I played this one a bit back in the day), and of course the classics like Simpsons Arcade, and X-men. Crime Fighters, anyone? (I may have been one of the only people playing this game in the arcades--.) Capcom still pretty much has a lock on the arcade beat-em-up scene, though, with AvP, Armored Warriors, Battle Circuit, Cadillacs and Dinosaurs, Captain Commando, and the D&Ds. Two final thoughts: Someone has to play Ninja Baseball Bat Man, right? Also, I don't know if it's actually good or not, but the Spider-Man arcade game from Sega was one I used to love when I was a kid.

Noise, I think I'm as befuddled as Bone is. I can kind of get not liking Guardian Heroes, with it not being too immediately approachable, but I don't see how anyone could not enjoy the D&D arcade games. If this isn't one of the greatest characters in human history, I don't know what is:

I mean, she's like Little Red Riding Hood, if instead of relying on the hunter, she just surgically extracted her grandmother while the Wolf drones on about his big eyes making it all the better to see her with; and kept his pancreas as a souvenir; Then flayed his pelt, and hocked it to fund more daggers.

I don't get it either. They're not only the best beat 'em ups ever made, but the best co-op arcade games ever made. (Seriously beating Shadow over Mystara via four player co-op is one of my greatest gaming memories.) Dragon's Crown wishes it was even half the game Tower of Doom is.

Eh, I wasn't a big fan of them when I played them a few years back personally. They don't even come close to measuring up to Streets of Rage 2 or Guardian Heroes for me.
