This game came up this year during GamesDoneQuick a month back or whenever it was and was kind of the biggest joke of the entire event. Even the speedrunners were making fun of how bad it was and their runs were just pure luck from moment to moment. The hit detection and glitches looked absolutely insane.
Looked worse than LJN material.
Athena is bottom of the barrel even by bad NES game standards.
Ok guys, I have some possibilities to play in the SEGA Mega Drive and Genesis Classics collection on Steam for March. However, does anyone have any experience with this collection? Is it true there are some issues with slow down? And since the program is pretty much an emulator, what kind of features do I have access to? Save states or saving scores? Controller compatibility? Any ideas?
Seeing as nobody replied, I decided to check it out for myself. I'm happy to say the SEGA Mega Drive and Genesis collection runs like a champ. I have only a few games for the setup, but I moved between Golden Axe, Golden Axe II, and Crack Down with little issue.
Now, for those of you in the know, what is on Steam that fits the mold for this TR? Golden Axe counts so long as you play as Tyris, since it came out in 1989, but the only other contenders available in this service are Phantasy Star II (with the caveat you have to focus on the female characters) and Flicky (Flicky is a female!). Are there other services on Steam which offer up additional choices?
I wold say Golden Axe counts. I'd also say it sucks.
I'm 99% sure that I'll be playing Phantasy Star II this month, but I'm going to take a quick look at Midway Arcade Origins, Rare Replay, and those two Atari compilations on Xbox One just in case I'm forgetting some really interesting option.

First Ack, now you too? You guys make me sad. Golden Axe is awesome.
I played it a ton back in the day, but going back to it these days just doesn't feel good. On the flip, Streets Of Rage is still as fucking awesome as ever. I don't know. Golden Axe just feels so clunky to me.
I can still enjoy the original Golden Axe, but if I get the itch to play, nowadays I tend to lean towards Golden Axe II personally. I know its kinda funky with some reused asset stuff, but it just feels better to play to me.
I agree that SoR is excellent. Mechanically its far from my favorite, since its pretty standard beat 'em up stuff, but it kills with the atmosphere and music.
I enjoyed and beat all three Golden Axes on Genesis. Granted that was many, many years ago. I plan to play the arcade version of Golden Axe soon, just 'cause I've never played through it completely (IIRC).
You wanna know a Golden Axe game that legit sucks?:
Golden Axe III is the one I have the toughest time getting into, but I do think there is something there to enjoy. I guess it just hasn't clicked yet. But I do really enjoy GAII, I play it pretty regularly.
Oddly, I have never played the arcade sequel, which looks like it might be the best GA game. I should rectify that at some point.
I had fun with the Master System action game, too, some years back. Decent little game.
