No. I said to myself, "I have already played this. I was just okay."

Then about halfway through the month I realized that I was actually thinking of The 7th Guest.

I played Alone in the Dark back in the day. I think I even finished it, but I recall using a guide for some bits at the very least.

I still remember playing the demo (which as far as I remember was basically just the character stuck in the attic exploring, and eventually monsters came from the window and trapdoor. After a few times playing the demo I just started by pushing furniture to block both of those and explore the attic for all the items. With the music and the spontaneous monster attacks it was a good work of survival horror, and fairly pioneering with 3D graphics in a 3D world if I recall.

Tank controls didn't bother me too much back then. Don't know about now.

I remember there are some tricky camera angles and fighting is frustrating regardless. I remember practicing a lot with one of the swords (one of them breaks if you use it a few times) because I didn't like spending the limited ammo. I think I had loads of ammo still stored at the end and then didn't use it after all. Running away is usually the best idea.

I remember it took me a while to figure out I had no chance in the dancing hall and that it was a puzzle, not a fight; there is more than one record as well I think and you have to use the right one - Blue Danube?
I think I had similar issues with a haunted Armor Knight that attacks you, and might be impossible to defeat. Also remember using a / the cursed book and instantly losing. Fortunately I probably had the game saved recently. Kind of a cheap shot. I remember those more than the ending, which I think was a cursed Pirate.

Just for the hell of it, I scanned a few pages of the NES Ghosts n' Goblins manual.

The artwork is pretty lazy, which makes me laugh. I also think it's funny that it bothers to tell you the points you get for killing each enemy. This doesn't strike me as the kind of game you play to rack up a high score. It's the kind of game you play to throw your controller across the room.

since you can milk areas, it's a stupid game to play for score.

Yes, though you do have a time limit. Still, it's not a game that lends itself well to a high score competition.

I wonder when Commando and 1942 are going to come out.

Completed Super Ghouls N Ghosts today. When I first played I always thought the true end boss was tougher than anything, then I realized, not really! The journey was tough but the end wasn't.

Yup. Sardius is a chump. The red and green demons before that are much tougher.

Yeah, I was shooting off the bracelet 2-4 times each time I made it up. No problem. There was a pattern and a time to hit the platforms and attack. After the rest of the game, it was nice.
