Good luck! You don't wanna just go with a DOS version with mouse support?

The mouse is definitely a lot better for moving the cursor around, or even a "Wiimote lightgun" pointer or Touch Screen for the newer incarnations. I'm playing the PS2 version with a SmartJoy Frag and mouse.

But yeah, the passwords are rough. The font in the game is kinda weird too - some letters look very similar to others.

Wait until Lost Vikings - you'll love those passwords.

I'm almost done the Tricky levels.

As you get further in the game the levels take a lot longer to complete. Some of the Mayhem levels take something like 6-7 minutes from what I recall. And it really sucks to eff up 5 minutes in and have to start over...

According to howlongtobeat, Lemmings is a 25-30 hour game!

I have the 3DO port as well but that version doesn't support the mouse. I'm surprised the game takes about 25-30 hrs to finish! I have to try to play with you guys this month.

The 25-30 hours sounds high, but keep in mind you will die. A lot.

For what it's worth there's one of those no-deaths/no-big-mistakes "longplay" videos on YouTube - it's six hours long.

The number of ports this game has is staggering. I'd like to try it on Amiga CD32 and the PC Engine CD. I grew up with the floppy disk Mac version, which I still say has the best music out of all of them:

there any versions of lemmings i should avoid? i never played this before.

I imagine any 8-bit version would be a bit tricky to play. I would especially avoid the Game Gear, Lynx, or Game Boy ports.

The game was originally 16-bit (Amiga). Any 16-bit and up version is fine.

I say playing on DOS is probably the easiest thing to do. Nice to have mouse support too.

The PSP version is fantastic, but a complete graphical/musical overhaul. So it may feel too far from the original game for some folks.
