My wife and I played this a few weeks ago. Bubble Bobble is one of only three games she will play - the other two are Tetris and Flicky. Unfortunately, she's not great at video games (huge understatement) so we weren't able to finish the game with two players. It was just me so I got the bad ending. :?

I believe I have an arcade port on my Taito Legends disc, I should check that out.

My girlfriend's actually pretty good at games, but she rarely plays them.

She's way better than me at Katamari.

Your wife likes Flicky!
That's awesome, I discovered that game on the Sonic UGC and fell in love with it chasing an acheivement. Man it's tricky with it's slippery/floaty controls but thats what makes it unique and challenging.

I wanted my wife to join in this month since it would've been something she would've liked, but I slacked on picking up a 2nd saturn controller. :(

I finally found a strategy to beat level 57!

I expected more enthusiasm for this title. I guess not having co-op partners contributed to it not taking off so much.

Here is my best score of the month, as I doubt I will improve it tomorrow

Level 43,
1421620.

I'm glad at having gotten over 1 million, but people that can 1 cc this will easily get better scores, I'm not even half-way on 1 credit.

Ivo.

I haven't seriously played it the way I did, or even did so well on it, so for that, I'm glad it did win the vote for this month. Last year's February pick, Soul Calibur, didn't go off so well either. Length of the month perhaps?

Wing Commander is going to "command" a whole mess of your time, I guarantee. Especially if you get the $5.99 package from GOG with the first 2 games and the 4 expansion packs for them

Wing Commander is next? I just played through a couple of months ago. Did not finish the Secret Missions though, so that's a good excuse to return to it. The Secret Missions are much harder than the main campaign.

Well, I finally sat down and beat the final-final boss in the Game Gear version. I feel pretty accomplished! I know I was reading a SMS guide on GameFAQs and was afraid I'd have to do things like get 1,000,000 points on level 195 (THIS WOULD BE VERY DIFFICULT) in order to get the items needed for the best ending... fortunately, the doors that led to those items showed up right away with no hassle! I don't know if it's a difference between the SMS and GG versions or if the guide has some wrong info, but either way I'm glad to have totally finished the game!
The GG version has a pretty wacky difficulty. The majority of levels are much easier than the SMS version, but the bosses are much tougher IMO.

I love Bubble Bobble, but it is best with a friend. I hope to get Bubble Symphony at some point, it sounds like a pretty great game.

For completeness, I also powered through the game on MAME, finishing it twice (first regular mode, the 2nd time "Super" mode).

I didn't know the Arcade ending music was actually the basis of the Amiga's port Intro music I like so much (I really like the melody).

I never had seen the "Super" mode's true ending until this Together Retro!
Very interesting!

Defeating the Final boss in Super with 2 players (I added another credit and player right at the end) makes a giant green dragon drop when you burst the bubble trapping the final Boss. The Dragon is tearful. When the Dragon drops to the floor, it splits into a woman and a man (bigger than the human forms of Bub, Bob and the girlfriends), both tearful but smiling, and wearing clothes with "Mam" and "Papa" written on them. Text appears with "Happy Ending" and mentions that you could help your father and mother and they were being controlled by someone.
