Together Retro: Bubble Bobble

Post by noiseredux »

Who's playing this month? Which version?

I picked up the Saturn port, and hopefully I'll have some time throughout the month. I did pop it in last night to see if it came back to me (last time I really played BB seriously I was in Junior High and would play the NES game a lot with a friend in my neighborhood). The game seems a bit tougher than I remember. I made it up to level 15 but that's a drop in the bucket, haha. I feel like BB is definitely a game that benefits from co-op.

I'm thinking of checking out the MegaDrive version. I didn't know about it until now and as far as I'm concerned a different Bubble Bobble game is worth trying.

Those gameplay mechanics are really good, as long as they are tuned properly.

I need to check on the SMS version. Hopefully I can find it cheap somewhere.

I'm afraid if I start playing it, the music will get stuck in my head again.

The first thing we should do is discuss how absolutely terrifying the Saturn/PSX version's intro FMV is.

Love how they disguised "If you're happy and you know it" as an original song.

It is pretty terrible. What is terrifying though is imagining that someone (or several someones) actually thought that creating that and putting it into the game was a good idea. Even more terrifying is that they might not have been completely wrong at the time (1996, I think)!
