Bad Dudes

If you have good memories of this keep them there. Looking back on it now Bad Dudes is a frustrating game with poor hit detection and high difficulty. You can use the 63 man code to cheese it but at that point why bother?

Cool Spot

This game is better than it has any right to be. Virgin games were on fire around 92-93 and Cool Spot is another notch in their belt. Awesome production values and great platforming fun make this an excellent game.

Kid Icarus

Post by sayewonn »

http://www.classic-games.net/kid-icarus/

This was an interesting one to go back to. Kid Icarus has always lived in the shadow of Zelda and Metroid and so has flown under the radar. Its much harder than your typical platformer and has a bunch of systems that aren't explained in game. However while it doesn't reach the heights of the previously mentioned it is still a pretty good game and unique in its setup. I would have loved to have seen further sequels that expanded on its gameplay but alas, not every game is destined to become a long lasting classic.

Don't read my review, run, don't walk, and buy this game. Classic.

Lords of Thunder

I remember wanting this for my Turbo Grafx so badly back in 1993. But I was poor and couldn't afford a Duo at the time. The years of anticipation were worth it when I finally did buy the game though. Lords of Thunder is probably one of the system's most hyped games in the US and I feel one of its best titles. Awesome production values, an amazing soundtrack and accessible gameplay make this one of my favorite shooters.

Legend of the Mystical Ninja

One of the most varied and culturally aware games of that generation. It is steeped in Japanese culture and I love it. Damn shame the sequels never left Japan.

Azure Dreams

Oddly enough this was my introduction to the roguelike genre. At first I was put off by the strict rules but grew to love it because of it. There is a lot of depth to mine if you so choose and while it can be difficult to make progress early on I still found it fun overall. Definitely a hidden gem.

F-Zero X

A bit ugly but truly excellent nonetheless. Nintendo made the right decision to focus on framerate over graphics with this one. And the random track generator has to be one of the best extras in a racing game I've ever seen.

Time Stalkers

Post by sayewonn »

I remember looking forward to this one so much, mostly because of the glowing previews in Gamer's Republic. I left ultimately disappointed. The incredible screenshots remember seeing hid the subpar character models and stretched textures. While the game has a few deep systems there is virtually no need to engage with any of them as it is insanely easy. The pickings might be slim for RPG fans on the Dreamcast but there are better options than this.
