A nice improvement over the original. A bit too cheap and hard for my taste but I still like it.

Arcus Spirits

Damn shame this one was cancelled for the US. I enjoyed the Genesis version and would have liked to see this one come out in America. Same thing goes for Neugier even if it is criminally short.

This is a case where they should have left well enough alone. Working Designs ruined what was an otherwise decent game for no reason.

Castlevania

Still a classic. A tad more difficult than most will like but the measured gameplay is still what makes this great. I really enjoyed revisiting this one and while I don't have the patience I did when I was younger I was still able to complete it again. But not without a lot of cursing.

Castlevania II: Simon's Quest

I waffled back and forth on this one. There are some good ideas here but my god are they buried under obtuse bullshit. This game desperately needs a remake.

One of the best NES games of all time and one of the best in the series. Love this game.

Akumajou Densetsu

For years I read about the differences between the US and Japanese versions of Castlevania III. Most of those discussions focused on the music side. But there are some pretty significant gameplay changes between the two as well. This version of the game is better but honestly you can't go wrong either way.

Super Castlevania IV

An excellent start to the series journey on the 16-bit systems. Simon's increased agility and whip skills make the game a bit easy but I don't think it affects the game too much. This is probably the most accessible in the series.
