Shadowgate

A great port of the Macventure. Atmospheric as hell and creepy to boot. Some of its puzzles might have been a little too advanced for the 9-10 year olds playing the NES back in the day but I still enjoyed trying to work my way through it back then.

Alien Storm

An oldie but still a good one. I think being released so early in the system's life helped me appreciate Alien Storm more. Its a weird mix between brawler and first person light gun segments although you aren't using one. I wouldn't choose it over the Streets of Rage series but it is a decent second option, especially at the dirt cheap price it goes for.

Illusion of Gaia

Such an incredible game with characters that actually experience growth on their journey. The mechanic of killing every enemy on screen for stat boosts can grow grating after awhile but the game still remains fun up until the end. A fantastic soundtrack and high production values help make this one of the better action rpgs from that period.

Conquest of the Crystal Palace

A nice little hidden gem that deserves a higher profile. It is very reminiscent of the Goemon series in that it is clearly feudal Japan but they have modern day stuff thrown in there too. The difficulty spike from the middle on can be off putting but don't let that deter you, this is still a great game.

Jewel Master

A cool gameplay feature with numerous possibilities tacked on to a slightly above average game. The ring system deserved to be in a better game.

Dragon Fighter

A real obscure hidden gem in the NES library, this is another cool action game from Natsume although it lacks the polish of Shatterhand. Its a bit difficult and unfair at times but I think is still worth playing if you like action games.

Dick Tracy

Some good ideas here but it doesn't come together in the end. This one needed better balance so that it isn't so frustrating. Damn shame as I like it but not enough to recommend it to anyone.

Joe & Mac SNES

A bit different from the arcade but still a good game. Most of the new stuff like the overworld map is fluff but otherwise I really like this version. If you want a straight arcade port the brutally hard Genesis game is for you. If you just want a caveman platformer that won't kick your ass this version is for you.

Dragon Spirit - the New Legend

A nice reimagining of the arcade game. Although it tries to present itself as a sequel this is clearly based on the arcade game. The graphics have taken a massive hit but the cool gameplay remains the same. This is one of my favorite shooters on the NES even though I rate other titles higher.

Mystic Defender

An oldie but a decent action game nonetheless. Its hard to recommend Mystic Defender considering the caliber of later action games for the Genesis.
