I brought this up last year I believe, but I am sort of interested in thoughts on it again. Some of you probably know that when I'm between games that I specifically want to play, I will go down a list of sort of highly recommended games and play those to write about.

The original experiment started with Metacritic's best PC games of all time list. The Pros to this are that there's a good mix of games - even ones that are out of print - or games that were praised upon release (like sports games for instance), but have since been forgotten or deemed obsolete by newer releases; and that it is a list evolving daily as new games are released and newer reviews are added to the archive. The Cons would be that there are a lot of double-dipping of series here, and also a LOT of expansions listed... and in those cases it may even be impossible to play an expansion before a base game.

About a year ago I switched the experiment and started writing about PC Gamer's annual Top 100 Games list. This one is different in that it's not at all based on review scores, is a list that changes drastically each year based on the the contributing editors, and generally just features games that are currently in print (at least digitally). Pros are less double-dipping and expansions. Cons are that the list is only published annually, so has no chance of including a game that was released during the current year.

^I believe I've written about 13 of these.

Now ultimately I realize that going by any list is arbitrary - but I genuinely like both lists for different reasons. The point is that I want to only focus on one or the other. Not both. So just curious thoughts on if there's one or the other that you guys deem as better than the other - and most importantly why?

I'd actually even be interested to know on each least how many of the 100 you guys would consider "awesome games that noise should have played if he hasn't."

I think in general I'm still leaning towards the PCG100 list purely based on game selection, but curious others' thoughts.

Thanks your time!
