Reprise wrote:I replayed Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 recently and I honestly think the Sonic stages (not the other garbage stages) hold up really well. The glitches and camera angles are no where near as bad as people make out (although it's worth pointing out that the DX version of the first game, originally on GameCube, seems to have more problems).

Also, whilst I appreciate that Sonic Colors and Sonic Generations are objectively superior games, I do really like that Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 have slower gameplay and are closer to the old school style and design. Also, some of the levels really do stand out, unlike Colors, which is fun, but I couldn't remember a single level from it if I tried.

Even if the Sonic levels remain fun, despite their problems, they constitute such a small part of the game (though I enjoy Tails' levels too, actually). Like I said, I have a fondness for everything about the game... but even back in 1999, I loathed the Adventure segments (though I like them in theory). Ugh, all that running around looking for a cut-scene to trigger...

Damn, now I feel like playing it! I really gotta get back on the series for my blog. Maybe sometime this week I'll finally get Sonic 3 out of the way.

Ah, but now you have to remind me about FFVII. I recently played through the PS4 version specifically for the purpose of writing about it... and nope, still haven't got to that yet either (very busy... being transferred and in the middle of a move).

Yeah, I know. That's what sucks. I found the non-Sonic levels in Sonic Adventure 2 even more terrible. Being honest, I didn't mind Tails, Knuckles and Amy Rose's levels in SA1, even though they were obviously weaker than Sonic's.

Haha and about FFVII, I did the same exact thing! I bought the PS4 version hoping to write about it, but although I did start it, I didn't even make it onto the equivalent of disc 2 before I got bored and moved onto other games. So I just wrote about it anyway and went from memory. I've played it so many times anyways.

Yeah, I've played FFVII way too many times... I just thought hell, I'll use the 3x speed boost and the built-in battle cheats. It was basically just a run to refresh my memory and get a ton of nice screenshots... eventually it will be a long multi-post review. FFVII is actually the game that got me blogging in the first place. And ironically... it's also the game (because I wanted screenshots) that led me to PS1 emulation... and then they had to go and release it on PSN like that...

I hope they do the same for FFVIII and IX. I've played VIII plenty of times, but I've only beat IX once. I actually dislike it quite a bit, but I'm willing to give it another chance.

thank you. Here are some thoughts as I read through...

I *like* the prequel trilogy. Revenge Of The Sith is awesome.

Not really an MMO. But I used to call it one as well.

If you're interested in playing PSO online, and you can't do so via Dreamcast, there is a large community that still plays Blue Burst online on PC. Free to set up, and has more episodes than just the first one on DC. Just a thought.

I've mainly played PSO offline and I find it to be one of the most engrossing games ever.

Reprise you should check out Blue Burst:

BTW, I used to think the hate for the prequel trilogy was exaggerated and that they "couldn't possibly be that bad". I'd seen them all as a kid/teen and thought they ranged from OK, to boring and dumb. I thought Revenge of the Sith was relatively good too though.

Then I rewatched them all last year. Fuck them. They're all pieces of shit, including Revenge of the Sith! Sorry noise

Anyways, thanks for that guys. I have never heard of Blue Burst before. I'll have to check that out! Also, good shout on it not really being an MMO game, noise. You're right there.

PSO is essentially a hack and slash RPG that you can play online, like Diablo.

The "Online" part of the title is a bit confusing as it sort of implies a mandatory internet connection or MMO status. I'm sure it was included to advertise the fact that the Dreamcast had internet capabilities, which was a big deal when the game launched.

For the record, the Blue Burst website I linked has two mentions of the game being an "MMO" on the front page. Definitions kinda vary by person. People call Zelda an RPG, after all.
