I too love the Monkey Ball series (also having been mostly a Sega kid), and I intend to write about it... within the next couple of weeks... someday... for me, it's pure Sega: simple, polished, addictive arcade-style fun.

Pier Solar is a solid, but flawed RPG, but is still worth recommending in my opinion. It's a fun game and the Dreamcast version is about the most professional, legitimate Indie release we have ever seen on the platform, with some fantastic production values.

Something about these games... I can't quite put my finger on it. I played some of Legends recently, and played all of Origins when it was new. I like them, but can't quite love them... something about them just doesn't satisfy me. There's too much Ubisoft in there, with all the shit you collect and all the bits and doo-dads and all that collect-a-thon nonsense... just superfluous shit to distract from the gameplay. Anything involving Murfy (the little helper) just seemed entirely pointless and unimaginative.

But these are pretty much the only big-budget, full retail 2D platformers that exist anymore, so I guess that makes them special.

Really? I completely fell in love with Origins and even more so Legends when they were released. I appreciate your opinion though. I must admit, the Murfy sections aren't my favourite.

We'll have to agree to disagree! Because I was also very unimpressed with Limbo. However I do have my own review written about it... I'll post it later this week.
