The Classic Nerd reviews Sonic the Hedgehog for the Sega Genesis. A classic game that helped launch the "Bit Wars" but was the game ever any good or was Sega's marketing team too strong to ignore?

Sonic the Hedgehog

Tough Love:

Your "review" is not difficult to watch because it is hard to watch, but difficult to watch because it sucks. In reality your "review" is boring and not even close to meeting mediocre. Your vocabulary is shit, your camera caption is shit, and your intro and voice recording is shit. And to top everything else off, you look like shit and your information is shit.

CAN WE PLEASE HAVE ONE VIDEO GAME REVIEWER NOT LOOK LIKE A HOMELESS MAN IN HIS LATE THIRTIES WEARING A DUMB ASS T-SHIRT? Just one. That's all I ask.

Super Sonic isn't in Sonic the Hedgehog, so step one would be getting your stuff straight. And when you mention the special stages were like the programmers made a pinball game...THAT'S WHAT THEY INTENDED to do. Doing what you have been told to do is their job.

Did like the reference to the infinity gems though.

And just because you suck at the game (apparently, just going by your game play, if you were actually playing the game) doesn't make the game suck. The games rules, you suck at it. Know how many people love and purchased the release? More than two, which is more than the number of people who have watched your review.

We get to see you play a few seconds of the first two levels, and then the final battle. Not one glimpse of the Starlight Zone, which is one of the greatest levels in video game history.

Plus "Classic" doesn't mean old. It means something of the highest quality, so when you you call something "classic" and then say "it sucks" you sound like a buffoon who doesn't know his native tongue.

I'm half kidding, but you need much work at writing or recording any review. You have zero structure, no knowledge of what you are reviewing, and no multiple use of curse words can save you.

And please keep your obnoxious whining to level one.

I say this with sarcasm, but mostly with sincerity.

Sonic the Hedgehog sucks. All the games. ALL of them, the characters and the sonic "world".

I don't have time to watch video game reviews...or write 1,000 word reviews of your reviews, but if the point of emphasis is that the GEN sonic games are grossly over-rated, you did a good job.

You don't call out the cattle before feeding the goats.

I have no clue what that means if it's a saying, but I had to post it as someone said those words while I passed him on a morning walk.

Kickstarter for a "Luke Reviews"?. 100% towards our charity auction. I already have the equipment, and might be able to arrange some celebrity guests.

Plus you'll learn stuff about the game being reviewed and laugh a lot. You can make fun of my neck tie. and I won't care.

There are some technical issues, sure, and I don't care for the swearing but I found the opinions expressed in this video very refreshing. And I like the Sonic games (well, some of them including part one) but I never understood the absolute adoration that's heaped upon them. They're good for what they are and are worth an occasional playthrough, but are nowhere even remotely close ranking among the best platformers the 16-bit era had to offer.

And Luke's t-shirt hate always makes me chuckle. Isn't that just standard "indoor wear"?

T shirts are cool for putting on before getting into bed, and then stripped off for sexy time.

Epic. Titanic. Portman and Ricci sex tape .

Refuse to watch the video but...

Maybe he dresses to match his opinion of the game... not that I believe it for a second. But that would be at least somewhat original.

I tend to prefer written reviews with a couple pics to most video revs. A compelling video review worth my time takes a lot of work.

I flipped through the video on mute as I'm at work, which is why I also prefer (and provide) written reviews.

That said... It's a T-Shirt. Not even a stupid T-Shirt, just... a T-Shirt, one that (sensibly) has his channel's branding on it... I mean... come on...

I'm not a big Sonic fan either, there are MANY platformers from the time that are MUCH better in my opinion, but having not actually watched the review, I can't comment on the quality of it. The T-Shirt? I give it a 6/10, which is Average on my scale...
