Camcorder that uses Cassette Tapes - The PXL-2000 by The 8-bit Guy.

Did anyone here have one of these as a kid? I didn't know that they were that well known until seeing this video.

I'm pretty sure I no longer have the camera, but I'll have to double check after seeing what they go for on eBay. It was floating around in my parents' basement for years, but I'm pretty sure it was eventually thrown away. I know the monitor is long gone.

I definitely still have a few items that came with the camera though. I have the original cassette tape, with the PXL-2000 sticker on it. And I have the RF switcher that came with it, it's actually what I use for my Atari 2600. Pretty sure I still have the original power adapter as well.

Oh man, I've seen these before, but never knew what kind of picture they produced. Thanks for the video!

I have one that has been modded for better composite out. I rented it to a production company a few years ago for a music video that never got released.

If you still have yours, I will give it a good home.

Edit:
Do be careful looking them up at work. In the late 90s they were used for amateur porn. They called it pixelporn.

Though there is one guy who loves vacuums and records video of them on his PXL2000, so vacuum porn.

If I can locate it, I'll let you know. I have the technical ability to modify it for composite output too.

Its not a hard mod. My favorite part about it is that there is a blue disc in the lens assembly that no one knows what it does so they just remove it.

Another good video of it from The Oddity Archive, with a little more background and technical talk on it - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NdB6bDtTHlw

Plus a bonus video of his restoration of it - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dwv3dMT6J3Q

If you're even remotely interested about dead A/V gadgets and formats, this is the channel to go to.

Well, it only took three years, but I finally got around to locating the bits and bobs that are left of this camera. Take a look at what I found the tape labeled as...

I chuckled when I saw this. After seeing it, I have a vague memory of filming "Street Fighter" with my brother. I don't know if we were trying to make a movie, or just fight in front of the camera.
