If they thought that, they must have never played the game. It is the least generic shooter on the SNES, by a good amount. It may be a controversial opinion, but I think Biometal is nearly as impressive on the SNES as Recca is on the NES. So much stuff going on, that can't be approached like any other shooter on the system.

It is certainly by far the hardest SHMUP I have ever played. With the blinding speed, moving backgrounds, and small projectiles, I can't keep up at all. Imperium is slower than this. U.N. Squadron is slower than this. Axelay, Gradius III, Super R-Type, they're all slower than this! I start BioMetal and almost immediately lose it.

Yeah, that game whoops my ass. Insanely tough.

This guy is just disgusting, he plays the entire game... without using the reflect shield!

I don't feel it's generic in any sense of the word -- I just wouldn't suggest it to someone just starting out on SNES shmups like Ack over here -- he said it right, play some of the more well-known games first then move up to stuff like Biometal (and heck even D-Force )

I have both, and you know what? I find D-Force a lot easier. BioMetal is probably one of the most challenging shmups on the SNES. In fact, someone ought to come up with a ranking system for overall challenge.
