Retro Gaming Magazines--in constant search of

by nightrnr Sun Jul 29, 2012 7:20 pm

Hi,

I have always loved diving into back issues of old magazines, and have a decent (if incomplete) collection of them in my closet. I never really tire of going through them.

Anyways, I recently got a new hard drive and so I now how room to store PDF and CBR files.
I just wish to know some good links resources...

Obviously, I know about Retomags, but fate has not been kind to that site's previous storage option. At least a good portion of old Nintendo Power are still available.
I also just learned about Outofprintarchive from another topic here. I really like what I see there and intend to explore that more soon.

But, there are always those mags that you can never seem to find.

In particular, I want to find missing issues of:
-PSM
-Silicon Magazine (anyone even remember this?)
-GMR
-Official Dreamcast Magazine

...and then there's an issue of some magazine that had a nice article/guide on Tactics Ogre: The Knight of Lodis. I'm not sure what it was, maybe a Pocket Gamer, or Tips n, Tricks. or even an EGM.
If anyone has any clues on that one I'd love to hear them.

There are likely some others that I'd like to find too,
So yeah, I'm searching for some good sites.
Also, I'd rather not mess with torrents, unless there's just no alternative.

Thanks in advance.

I'm also interested in this. My old laptop had an almost complete PDF collection of GamePro on it, amongst other things, and it died hard last month. Unfortunately the site that I got the majority of GamePro from used megaupload. :\

EDIT: I also remember a site that was very no-frills but had all of the old joystiq magazines and whatnot, as well as arcade manuals and the like.

I'll check my magazine collection and see if I got any old game mags. I keep my Nintendo powers in a nice spot but other mags not as important to me.

Think there's a market enough out there to print trade paperbacks of old gaming magazines? Like collected editions of comics? Somebody should do this.

-Silicon Magazine (anyone even remember this?)

FUCK YEAH I DO!!!

I still recall my very first issue, Jade Cacoon (PS1) was on the cover. Had a memorable review of Evil Zone which was enough for me to go out and buy it!

I thought I was the only that read or even remembers that magazine.. I have few issues lost somewhere in my apartment. Unfortunately because it was a free magazing publication it was naturally made on disposable material that really made it hard to keep in good shape over time.

Awesome!, me too.
Yeah, mine are starting to show some wear too after looking through them so much.
It was almost like a fanzine (or the closest thing I ever experienced to one anyway). I eagerly anticipated making trips to a certain game store just to pick up an issue (and a back issue or 2 if I was very lucky... ah, the good times of a poor '90's/'00's gamer).

It's also the first I heard/noticed about Radiant Silvergun (I loved their "Wanted from Japan" section). This made me eventually fork over some cash for the game on Saturn (much to the enjoyment to a friend and myself).

I suppose I should do my part and copy/upload what I have sometime. It was relatively short lived and I should have over half of them (I think).
I don't have easy access to a scanner with my setup right now though.
