2 years ago i decked out every inch of my room with posters (except for the ceiling), and while only a portion of the posters were gaming related, a majority of them came from old back issues of egm and nintendo power. if my memory serves me correctly, every issue of nintendo power came with a center fold poster (and i'm sure you can find a website on google that tells you what poster came with what issue). also egm was always full of advertisements for great games (i've got dreamcast advertisements on my wall from bomberman online, skies of arcadia, and even the unreleased shenmue 2!). also there are some sellers on ebay that carry game posters in their stores that may be of interest to some. and as a former employee, i know that gamestop gets rid of the standup/usually lifesize advertisements in their store after a short while - and you can usually "reserve" these by asking the store employees to contact you when they're throwing them out! (this was a few years ago, but i'm sure they still do this). and of course you can always scan images from box art/instruction books and expand the size of the print out at your local copy shop!

If you are willing to spend a little more money, you can always have them framed too.

Whenever I would try to get the posters at gamestop, the employees would tell me that it was no use, because they had already reserved them for themselves.

You would be suprised what turns up in the local pawn shops. Some years ago I purchased a gigantic Nintendo neon sign for my gameroom. Sometimes toy stores are a good source especially if you can find a vendor working there that day who works for Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo. Alot of times they will field destroy advertisements, posters, displays, signage, etc. If you build up a good report with those employees most of the time they will just give you the stuff since it is of no use to them. I scored two not for resale Virtual Boy demo carts that way.

I have a comic book shop down the street from me that has allot of great videogame style posters. I would buy more, but something tells me my girl friend wouldn't like a life sized poster of cammy with her ass hanging out of her barely there leotard, or sakura showing off her camel toe while doing her trade mark shoe kick off.

EBay would probbaly be the best place to find stuff like this is you don't have a local place.

Our local gamestops have been getting really stingy with standup giveaways. One employee told me that they stopped giving them away because they were showing up on Ebay (So?). Lately, I've had the most luck with boxes/standups that are stashed away in corners. The store obviously isn't using them for current campaigns, so you're likely to get them that day, instead of putting your name on the back, hoping someone calls you.

Honestly I'm surprised anyone has any luck getting displays from game stores. People who dig games seem to gravitate to these jobs and want them for themselves. I know at both Toys R Us's that I have worked at, very few are thrown or given away (luckily most come home with me, heh).

They are supposed to be destroyed (at TRU anyway), ANYONE taking them home is a violation.

So to shallowgamer I would say it is annoying to see them sold on Ebay because it's a personal favor to let someone take any display, and to see it sold for profit leaves a bad taste after you were willing to take a few moments to call them, and break the rules for them. We could have sold it ourselves if we wanted, we give it away as a gesture from one gamer to another, not one sucker to a profiteer.

All I gotta say is, I am 8-bit.

I love that site, they have some awesome prints. I picked up one for now, and I have to say they have the best customer service I have ever encountered.

The affordable ones aren't very big either...
