Your view on Portable Screens

After much deliberation, I'm not quite sure if I should purchase a small (5'' - 16'') LCD 'attachable' screen, or a regular small television (color, of course). I was always interested in those 3.1'' PS2 screens that were also a PS2 controller. At first glace it looked awseome, but was really useless in everyway (screen way to small, requires extra power supply, controller very stiff). I'm just looking for a small television that I can play some of my classic games on around my house. I've came arcross a third-party Zenith 5'' PS2 screen for $49. Of course I won't only want to play PS2 games on it. Hmm

Whats your views on small portable screens for gaming? do you own any?

The only small portable screen that I own is the one that came out for the small PSONE. It has an input mini jack in the back that will accept video and audio input. You will need an adapter from Radio Shack or similar store but you can plug any console you want into it. Best thing is the screen does not have to be attatched to the PSONE to function and it will power up automatically once it detects an active video source. I was lucky to grab mine at K-Mart when they had the clearance sale on them but they can still be found on Ebay factory sealed or even used for that matter since they hold up extremely well. Dead pixels on these are rare. Both mine do not have any and I have not heard any complains about them on any of the forums that I visit. The thing also has very powerful speakers and sounds clear despite the small size that they are. I wish my GBA SP had the speakers that this thing does. Make sure you go with the official Sony screen. Alot of modders also use these for various projects which can attest to the quality of the screen. Well worth the price of admission.

LETS FACE IT WE DONT GO AND SPEND A COUPLE HUNDRED QUID ON A CONSOLE TO THEN GO AND PLAY IT ON A TINY SCREEN WHERE YOU CANT REALLY SEE ANYTHING.

Portable screens and the like...

I do own the Sony portable screen for the PSOne and love it. However, I have to agree with the previous poster - so much is lost in such a tiny screen, that it can make the playability of some games very difficult.

Now, if for some reason you don't want to use the large television or monitor that you normally do, a good ALTERNATIVE to a tiny portable screen are the i-glasses - they are fully compatible with game systems, and when worn, they emulate a HUGE giant screen TV-like view. They are pretty neat. I don't own a pair myself, since my game room is just that - for games LOL, but I have been looking at them... there are various other manufacturers as well...

Just a thought,

Mike

In my opinion those screens are a waste of money. What's the point of having a portable screen when the console itself really isn't that portable. You still gotta lug the psone around. I'd much rather spend my money on something else.

If you were to do something, I would just buy a LCD screen with a nice refresh time that you yourself could mount on the top of the PS2 (as im guessing you have the first edition). This would be the best as it could be big, wide screen, and have nice video quality. The problem with third party screens is that they suck. Only reason I got my GCN one was cuz it had the battery pack as well for only 60 bucks. Quite a steal. The PSONE screen is the best, by far. Of course, mounting your own screen would be difficult and would definately require a heckof a lot of knowledge in a few subjects, so for most, it's really not worth it. Tho it is the best option.

PSOne and Sony Portable Screen...

I should elaborate and say that on my PSOne, with the SOny Portable Screen and the rechargable battery pack on the bottom and a wireless controller, this has truly become a realy portable system. I have played this sucker everywhere! Otherwise, I wouldn't bother with another system and a screen...
