Congrats! I've experienced the same thing a few times, after retro gaming on an HDTV for a long period of time and then switching back to a CRT, you forget how much better it really is!

Ugh, tell me about it. 27" is my limit for what I care to move by myself. I'm still not sure what I'm going to do with my 32" Trinitron. It's too heavy for me to lift by myself, I've been moving it around with a handtruck. I really don't have the room for it, and I think I need to get rid of it.

I feel the same way about the 27" limit. I had a 27" Trinitron before I moved. It was a pain to get that thing up a flight of stairs. Nice as that TV set was, I'm not going down that road again.

I need a CRT tech who can do house visits. My 36" Toshiba HD CRT is not going to transport easily to a shop somewhere.

Thanks to Anapan, I was able to get my hands on a XRGB3 so I can now hook up RGB SCART, S video, & composite to my VGA CRT. Worth noting the XRGB3 supports component as well, but I was accomplishing this beforehand for 480p and up signals with a Mayflash component to VGA adapter. That's what produces the Halo pics I posted a couple pages back.

Here's the SNES in it's RGB glory. Man...

SNES > RGB SCART > XRGB3 > VGA output to 480x640p

i still have a big 24" trinitron CRT that i've had as my main display for nearly 4 years, since retrogaming and SD DVDs take priority over HDMI for me. i had a nice smart TV gifted to me but it fell down and broke after a few months, so it was back to the CRT for everything again

i did buy a retrotink 2x during that time and was pretty pleased with PS1 and N64 games looking smoothed out and lag-free.
does anyone know an affordable hardware filter (maybe similar to mClassic) for PS1 to component or s-video? i'd love to play PS1 or N64 with extra smoothness on my CRT

The PS2 has a texture smoothing option for PS1 games (as well as a disc speed option for faster loading) and can output S-Video and Component (as well as composite and RGB). The PS2 is better for PS1 games than an actual PS1, and you can use all of our PS1 controllers and memory cards on the PS2 (even the old non dual analog controllers).

The PS3 can also output component and I think S-Video over the analog multi AV output, and IIRC also has smoothing options for PS1 games, but the PS2 can more accurately play PS1 games and doesn't require a memory card adapter. I'm pretty sure the PS2 is a 100% hardware solution for PS1 games, but I suspect the PS3 uses software. Can anyone confirm this?

Agree with Ziggy.

2 small caveats, most modern TVs won't accept 240p over component. Need to run through a scaler or line doubler. Also, a small set of PS1 games don't work on PS2. I ran into PO'ed as one of those for example. It's a very small set (5 to 10 games IIRC).
