How many of you are actually still using CRT TVs?

Good for you! Model number? Try a DVD or watch TV (especially the SD channels) to see how the the CRT blows away the blurry upscale of newer LED flatscreens. Only the HD channels will look better on the flatscreen.

You might find the PDF Manual by Googling the Make and model number.

CraigsList a great way to get CRTs, that is where I picked up the my uncommon Sony KD-27FS170 for only $20.

Due to this Thread I started thinking about a backup CRT to store in the washroom. I really wanted another 32" WEGA HD CRT, but too big. I almost bought the one of the best Sony SD Tubes, a very uncommon KV-27FV17 which even includes PIP as in the HD CRT Trinitron line. I really wanted another HD CRT though.

Wow, I spotted a rare first time discovery of a smaller 27" 4:3 HD CRT, a JVC AV-27S776



Never until now have I seen a 4:3 HD CRT under 32"; very very cool to spot this on Craigslist. Already picked up for $30 and now sitting in washroom. I'll pop the cover off this weekend for a good dust off. Not a WEGA, but still a decent picture. FLAT SCREEN TUBES ARE THE BEST!

I'll end up reprogramming the old dish remote to control it possibly. Even though there might not be a point it's not like I can remotely turn on the systems that I'll have connected to it

Yeah, I've had my beast of a wega for years now without a remote. Not much use for one, all I do is turn it on/off, change inputs, and (very) occasionally changing the volume -- all of which can easily be done with the front panel.

I only occasionally think about finding a remote so that I can access the system menu. I really gotta try programming my Logitech Harmony for it to see if I can access it that way...

The name brand alludes a cheap TV, but customers who own it on Amazon gave the 20" flat tube high praise. I imagine the remote will be an obscure find, maybe Ebay? You can also Google download the user manual PDF.

Model number? Look on Sony eSupport for the PDFs.

Not a good idea to use the front buttons as the primary controls, they are small and could fail if always pressed. Seriously, just hit the Thrift stores and Swap Meet. Mentioned a few times in this Thread, a WIDE range of Sony Remotes will work!

You can get to the TV Menu right from the front panel. The Channel and Volume buttons act as a "Dpad".



Now if you are talking about the hidden Factory Service Menu, be very careful. Some TVs have been bricked when the configuration changes are not done correctly.

Good for you, sparx. I had a Daewoo brand VCR back in the day. It was pretty nice and lasted a long time. I'm glad you like your new CRT.

No sweat, sparx. If you don't need a remote, no one can blame you for not using one. I like to be able to adjust the volume without getting up, but (like you said) you can reprogram another remote to do that.

If your CRT was sold by sears at any time, you can find an exploded view on Sears Parts direct. I don't plan on ever buying any of these expensive parts from Sears, but I think it's cool to look at the exploded view diagram of electronics.

I bought a Sony KV-27FS120 CRT last summer for 10$ and it's great.

I haven't tried it with a lightgun yet but I'll try eventually.
