Help with HDTV
Help with HDTV
Hello people!
Please, I am kind of a noob on this stuff. Recently I hooked up my snes on an hdtv. I am using a scart converter to hdmi, but the image's not perfect.
Here is the first example:

The Blue Falcon looks good, but Samurai Goroh´s car on the other hand:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a3ryh-pqGIM
Looks like it's flicking.
Here is a Star Fox test:

And Kirby´s Avalanche:

Can someone help me? Thanks a lot!

Re: Help with HDTV
I don't have any RGB equipment yet, but I have been doing a lot of research to gear up to buy some junk. I believe if it's not a dithering issue, it could be an interlaced issue with the output.
You should probably show what Scaler/converter you're using.
Outside of that, it looks pretty spectacular!
Have you made sure to properly configure the TV in addition? Remove sharpness (in all it's evil forms), game mode, all that?

Re: Help with HDTV
I'm no expert on this, but it looks like it might be some sort of interlacing issue.
You may find an answer (or at least an informative read) at this site:

All I know for sure is everyone swears by the Framemeister.

Re: Help with HDTV
That does look like a deinterlacing issue to me. That happens with cheaper converters, like the ones I have. Those colors on the car may be making it look more visible, or the car itself may have some jitter that's giving the deinterlacer fits. The latter would be kinda strange, because I don't see much movement on the car in other videos. What brand of converter are you using?
It does look pretty good otherwise!

Re: Help with HDTV
Hey folks, thanks for the answers.
Gonna read that site and try "squeeze" more the cables. I use this converter:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Scart-HDMI-to-HDMI-720P-1080P-HD-Video-Converter-Monitor-Box-For-HDTV-DVD-STB-/310620740857?ssPageName=ADME:X:AAQ:US:1123
The funny thing is that the Blue Falcon originally had this effect too!
Again, thanks everyone.

Re: Help with HDTV
Hey people! I am back, I have another stupid question. With my upscaler, wich is better for retro games: 1080p or 720p?
Thanks!
Thanks!

Sorry for the non-answer, but it entirely depends. The quality of your scaler, the scaler in your TV, the source, and it's completely subjective to boot. I say try both 720 and 1080 with each game and just pick whichever looks better. More often than not, I'm guessing you wont find a distinguishable difference between them.
Re: Help with HDTV
I would use whatever the TV natively outputs at. If you're feeding it a 1080 signal, then use 1080. 720, then use 720.

Ziggy and the Panda mostly have the right answer... but I'll add: If you did upgrade to a Framemeister and are using scanlines, 720p. They don't quite look right at 1080. But that's pretty well-publicized if you're into the Framemeisters at all, so I don't even really know why I'm writing this...
Gunning for a licensed NES NTSC-U set, follow the madness and poverty here!

Re: Help with HDTV
I was using 480p with my Framemeister for most things for a while. I preferred the way it looked when my TV upscaled it from there. It "blurred" it slightly, so jaggies weren't as bad.
