Sony WEGA CRT - HD or SD preferable for classic gaming?
Re: Sony WEGA CRT - HD or SD preferable for classic gaming?
A few months ago I bought a 40 inch Sony WEGA TV off my neighbour for 200 bucks (stand included). The TV is in mint condition and only used a couple times because she is an elderly woman and she already has a bigger TV in her living room, and this one was just sitting in her spare room collecting dust.
I bought it because it was a good deal and never thought much about it, but I have seen people on here a couple different times talk about how good these particular TVs are. So I am wondering if I accidentally stumbled across something really special here or if it is just another TV.
The picture is crisp and clear. The screen is completely flat (although the TV is obviously not very thin) and it has HD components in the back.
In a nut shell, what makes them so good compared to other TVs? I know Sony is obviously a good make but some people think I am nuts for buying a huge ass CRT TV when I have an even bigger flat screen TV already.

The thing that makes them better than other brands is the patented Trinitron technology. Their electron gun is fired through a special aperture grille giving a really clear picture. The WEGA part is just Sony's name for the flat screen which gives less pincusion distortion than curved tubes.

I have a sony KV27FS100L (http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/model- ... KV27FS100L),
I am seeing a bit of odd distortion around vertical menu borders in smb3, any games that have a static menu in the same area also have similar issues. I don't have the motion smoothing option (VM i think) enabled. Just wondering if this is normal or if something is off with the tv.
The distortion is on the vertical borders near the world and life indicator in this first pic.

In this one its on all vertical borders for the item boxes, they don't look like straight lines.

It looks the same on both smb3 carts I have. The nes is hooked up via a composite-svideo converter. And its only going through the s-video convertor so the switchbox works.
The distortion is still present using direct composite hookups to the tv (bypassing s-video and the switchbox).

That looks like pretty normal composite video issues to me.

SMB3 does the exact same thing on my TV. I was wondering about it earlier today and tried another copy too.

Thats good to hear, so its not my tv
Anapan, does your smb3 do the little flickery horizontal line thing above the world indicator? You can kind of see it in my first screen shot.

That probably just a normal glitch that occurs with split screen games where part scrolls and there's a hud. I don't have SMB3 but lots of other games have some jankiness at the edges of transitions like that.
