Putting together a Game Room

by Crabmaster2000 Wed Sep 16, 2009 3:00 am

UPDATE JULY 2012 - Newest photos on page 11 now

UPDATE: Newest pics on the first post of page 10. Browse from start to finish if you want to see the evolution of the room from when we purchased the house to its current state.

Hey guys. My wife and I just recently purchased our first house (we owned a trailer before) and I finally have the space for my own game room. I havnt been able to work on it yet, but this week I will be able to really get going on it. I've got a friend coming over after I paint it to help put up some custom shelving. Anyway here are some pics of what I have to work with, some supplies, and my games mostly boxed up in the laundry room :(.

View from the door into the room

Mostly painting supplies and a few things for the shelving also

Image

My son saw me sanding the boards so he brought his "wipes" in to give me a hand

Image

This is a lengthwise view of the closet. This is where the shelving is going to be installed, right on the wall. Its hard to tell from the picture but it is quite a large closet. About 11 feet long and 3 feet wide.

Here is the sad condition of my collection at the moment while I have it stored safely away while I paint and get the room ready for them.

Oh is that a Sony Trinitron? Very nice CRT SDTV, if not the best.

Unfortunately not. Its a 27" Panasonic something-or-other. I got it last year for $100 brand new in box. Its not the best SDTV around, but the price was right and my old one had some discoloration in the corners and a little bit of burn in from health bars and stuff. We've got a 42" LG LCD also, but I have to share that one so I cant stick it in my game room. I've got the NES and Wii hooked up to that one at the moment. The only other sytem I've got out right now is my Dreamcast. Skies of Arcadia should tide me over until I can unpack the rest of the stuff.

Isn't it great having a little "helper"? I've got two little ones of my own and projects just seem to take a little longer with them around. Can't wait to see the finished room!

Sure it takes a little longer, but the trade off is that it can be a lot more fun! I think its hilarious when he is walking around trying to mimic me. Right after I took that picture he found all the electrical outlet covers I just took off and started trying to put them back on.

It was a lot harder when I had all my game stuff in the room because then he had lots of stuff to get into so I had to keep redirecting him.

I'll try to keep posting pics during the process, just because I think its neat to see stuff come together. Also my wife got me a lead on some arcade cabinets about an hour out of town so wish me luck!!

Ok, odd question. Is the flooring the freefloating pergo knockoff from Lowes? I laid alot of it this summer at different locations and the pattern looks so familiar.

I'm really not sure. I really doubt its from Lowes though because I dont think there is a Lowes within 8 hours of us. We just got the house so I had nothing to do with the flooring.

Okey dokey, I just had to ask.

Look foward to the progress shots, I see you also have a collection of store signage.

I've got a little bit of signage and some gaming posters, but i dont think any of them will work well in what i've got planned for the room. I'll probably try to sell them of trade them off. Nothing to spectacular though.
