Yeah, epsxe requires different plug ins to work. Each are only good for some games. I use psxfin, way easier and doesnt require plug ins ot work. Heres tutorials for both emulators.

Last time I checked PSXfin does use plugins. It just comes per-bundled with standard audio and video plugins.

ePSXe 1.80 is much better then PSXfin anyways. I recommend P.E.Op.S. Soft Driver for video,

and the standard internal SPU plugin for audio.

Hope that helps, I've never tried to emulate FF8 so I can't say for sure if these are optimal plugins.

I swear I have never gotten a virus from that site. Ever. It does have emulators on it though, so maybe your protection doesnt like it going to a page with bios and exe files on it to be downloaded? You can download fro mother sites if you want. Coolroms and emuparadise are great. The tutorials on fantasyanime are the best Ive found, heck theyre really the only ones Ive found on how to get emulators to work.

I have an XP, so I dont know if those emulators just arent recognized by newer versions of Windows, but I do know that MAME has an invidia problem, so I need to downgrade to a older version of it if I were to use it to play arcade games, so since the emulators page has MAME on it, then newer computers just see it as a virus?

You dont have to turn plugins on or off with PSXfin, theyre just the meat of the emulator.

I know my post count is low, but this section of the forum is my favorite, I dont like who the general gaming one is nothing but massively replied to threads. Ive spent good amount of time on emuparadises board, and digitalpress. I go by my real name on ep's forum, william jones. I kinda liek their fb group more since there no trolling on it.

Why, oh why do you want to play FF8? There are so many better RPGs out there? *sigh*

ePSXe is a great emulator, but you have to play with different plugins to get the best match for different games. Here's a thread that discusses game compatibility.

I don't recommend the latest version of ePSXe (1.8 something), as it has problems with textures. Championship Motocross featuring Ricky Carmichael, for instance, has all of the red textures in the jersey messed up, no matter what plugin you use (even the software plugin, which should be accurate, so it's probably something with the core)

The best one is still 1.7.0 with a copy of the 1.6.0 exe on the side, for the handful of games that require it (Gundam Battle Assault 2 and Nippon Sentai Hurricanger will crash on 1.7, I know there are others).

I haven't noticed much difference between 1.7 or 1.8

I played FF8 on 1.7.0 a while back and the faces all looked normal. I think I used pete's openGL plugin.

PSXfin does not use plugins, but it's fast, easy to use, and accurate. If you don't want enhanced graphics (or, on the other hand, you want better sound and no graphic glitches) I would recommend it. It looks better on CRTs because it emulates the hardware dithering. On LCD screens, the games would look better without it.
