One of the benefits of emulation is the ability to enhance many aspects of the game, mostly visually. Let's see how impressive we can get classic games to look. I'll start with Final Fantasy 9. This just might be the prettiest 3D game the PS1 ever had, and it's an awesome test subject for ePSXe and it's set of plugins and filters.

Try to use appropriate filters rather than just the most advanced. For example, HQ4X is a nice filter for cartoon style visuals, but it's terrible for pre-rendered backgrounds or other "realistic" visuals, but people tend to use that filter regardless.

Another one I may have shown on here before. Einhander. I have a specific color filter that does wonders for this game.

Oh and FF7. Also using the same color filter. People tend to use the default texture filter with this game but I think it always makes the game too smudgy. Instead I use the Stretched 2x mode, which is like a 50% blend.

Silent Hill. This game benefits massively from emulation. Not just from higher resolution, anti aliasing, and all that. It also removes the terrible fake fog method the game generally uses on a real PS1, where it's just a mess of dots on the screen. Also I may be wrong, but you can finally force vsync, where on a real PS1 game, the game constantly out frames tearing.

Zelda: OoT has had many active re-texturing projects, but the "realistic" one was my favorite, although it was never finished. It was by far the best looking.

Oh man, now I want to actually play FFIX. Upgraded visuals and no load times? Please tell me the plugins kind sir.

No matter how hard you try you won't eliminate load times. You'll just chip away at them a little. Sadly, emulation won't keep FF IX from being a real slow grind...

Still, impressive screenshots, Mozgus. Maybe we should start collecting "optimal" emulator settings for various popular games.

Well any decrease is progress, I guess no is just a pipedream until a new emulator is made or the epsxe team starts doing things again. My memory is quite hazy but I seem to remember clocking atleast 30 seconds on some of the loads in Chrono Cross and FFIX. However last time I played those they had just come out, and I am playing Guild Wars right now...
