X-Band modem service to be emulated for PC

Post by J T »

I don't check my MySpace account much, but I got this message a few months ago:

"Hi there,

An indy game developer named Laguna Krazy has undertaken the task of reviving Xband. Xband 2 will be Xband remade from scratch for Windows. It will utilize emulation to run the games like Mario Kart and NBA Jam. The URL has been purchased, sprites and music are being ripped from the original SNES and Sega Xbands, and a database which will handle X-Mail, stats, and more is in the early stages of creation. If you'd care to learn more, drop by the NetLink message board for periodic status updates. Just wanted to give all formers users a heads up.

I have been following this for a while, but it's news to me that it is shutting down already. That seriously sucks; I hope someone else will soon volunteer to take up the task of hosting the server.

Interesting. Too bad it's dead. Closest parallel I can think of is GGPO, for online MAME.

Hey all,
Glad there's a bit of interest left. We will be relaunching Xband 2 with an updated client in March.

Awesome news! It would definitely make me go play some SNES.

By the way, welcome to Racketboy! I think you'd fit in pretty well here. :)

Whatever happened to this? Xband2 is now a apple accessory product me thinks? Stopped keeping track and don't know what happened to the beta signups.
