But I was playing Super Mario World last night and noticed some slowdown when firing a lot of fireballs and a crowd of enemies and sometimes with the invincibility.
This is running a a 2GHz Pentium 4. Does that sound normal?

Possibly because the actual game slows down when having many enemies on screen?

That's kinda what I thought, but Mozgus didn't seem to think so...

The actual game slows down in a number of places. The SNES was supposed to be the end all be all and its opening shot had slowdown. Slowdown in a Mario game, no less. The early SNES games were often plagued by slowdown, until Nintendo released better dev environments I guess. Some emulators include the ability to eliminate slowdown, however, by turning off sprite limits.

Street Fighter DEFINITELY slowed down, and the music would kinda go slower and stutter, much to my chagrin, the VC version perfectly emulates this facet of the original which is undesirable (to me at least)

Why would you want to play World Warrior anyways... Turbo was the definitive version and had the opposite problem of slowdown.

One more vote for zsnes. Works beautifully in linux/freebsd, and can be completely command-line driven.

Oh, and for those that dislike the gui, "-m" with a rom loaded on launch kills it.

Cheers,
Jon

another vote for zsnes here. i like it overall, but i see that i am not alone when i say that i hate the gui (metaleggman).

however, i find it odd that i can't run any filters at all without massive slowdown. my pc is old, but it's not that old. if i can run half-life 2 at 1280 resolution getting 65-75 fps, shouldn't i be able to run a 15 year old game reasonably well with a filter?

I'd have to say bsnes and snesgt as most of the sound out of zsnes is no bueno
