So I just picked up Little Big Planet...

Post by dsheinem »

...and after a few hours of play, it certainly lives up to the hype. The regular game is lots of fun and includes probably the best /most innovative 2-D (2.5D?) platforming I've played in a very long time.

I'm looking forward to building some levels soon and also seeing what others do with everything. Anyone else here pick this up yet?

Nah, I haven't got it yet, but I played the beta for a few weeks and was suitably impressed - the stlye is simply charming and some of the levels created during the beta were very, very impressive. The only problem I had with it was that the level editor is very intimidating and it can be very difficult at first to realize your ideas, but through playing others levels you can gain ideas to use in your own and the fact that you can copy peoples levels onto your system and then see exactly how they've made things work is very helpfull.

You know, you guys may think I've been living under a rock, but I haven't looked into Little Big Planet at all. Exactly what is it? I know it's a platformer so it's probably not my thing, but I'd like to hear your thoughts on how it plays.

Picked it up this afternoon, and me and 3 others spent a few hours playing the campaign. I must say that the game really shines with more people, it's incredibly fun.

The more I play the better this game gets. This game actually manages to surprise and amaze me! I cannot wait for the online multiplayer to go live this week. I bought a PS3 for this game specifically and I am not disappointed at all! How on earth did Sony end up a part of something like this?

This has been my experience as well so far.

Ack, at its base LBP is a platformer that includes a simple yet elaborate level creation tool. I don't care for platformers generally, and have played through maybe 2 recent ones in the past four years. But, this is leaps and bounds beyond any 2D or 3D platformer I've seen in a long time. The sheer quality (level design, style, music, control, etc.) reminds me of the best 8 and 16-bit Mario and Sonic games.

Rather than reading me try to explain what the game is all about, I'd suggest checking out some reviews. A good place to start: http://www.gamerankings.com/htmlpages2/ ... g%20planet

I love this game. It's probably one of the only 2 good games on the PS3! [And you know what the other one is.]

Ooh ooh I know! Uncharted!

No wait... Ratchet and Clank Future! No wait... Fallout 3! No wait... maybe Resistance? No, Motorstorm! Wait, are PSN titles included...? PixelJunk Monsters!

Anyway, hearing all this LBP talk is making frustrated. I stupidly pre-ordered the game from Amazon and it STILL hasn't shipped yet. Which means I've still got at least another week before I'll see it.

Oh well, at least I have Rock Band 2 to keep me company. And Burnout: Paradise. And... ok I'll stop with that.

This game has been way overhyped. It reminds me of Rag Doll Kung Fu; seems interesting for a few minutes then becomes pointless pretty quickly. This and GTA4 are this year's glamourised mediocrities. And I love the fact Sony is pulling everything remotely relating to copywritten material. Genius!

Something like this belongs to the PC realm. No scripting? No triggers? No story no cutscenes? I mean even the most primitive platformers had those.
