Transformers Devastation

Transformers Devastation. aka ZeroAX finally plays a Platinum Games...game, aka ZeroAX gets a nerd boner from his childhood. (can't believe there isn't a thread for this game here, yet)

WOW, what an experience this game has been. The only Platinum Games that I had played before were Madworld (ok-ish) and The Wonderful 101 (not a fan of the Wii U so I didn't get far in that game).

I was amazed by how fluid and cool the combat is. The game makes me feel really cool when I pull off some amazing combos, but I also need to change my tactics to not get my ass kicked. And they just NAILED how controlling a transformer in an action game should control in my opinion. And the idea of making the vehicle transformation part of the combat was just brilliant.

The graphics are gorgeous and the fan-service for us who grew up as kids watching the original transformers is just an extra added huge bonus.

Unfortunately because of my very limited free time I still haven't beaten this...5-6 hour game? But that's alright, it's the perfect length for me, and I do plan on going back to it and beating it in hard mode ;).

The only disappointing thing is that grimlock controls like crap imo. His gameplay style is just a bit too complex for his own good. My favorite characters to play as are Optimus Prime and...Sideswipe? The red sports car. I just LOVE his flip upside down and hit the enemy in the face vehicle attack

Anyone else here spent some time with this awesome game?

I want to buy it at some point. I've played a lot of Platinum's library, so I can appreciate their combat systems. If you like this one, you should definitely give Bayonetta a shot. You might also like Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance. And for a change of pace, if you like third-person shooters, Vanquish has Platinum's take on the genre. (I'm gonna get back to that soon, Exhuminator!)

^ We've all clearly discovered that Platinum has some C-grade teams though. The new TMNT game looks and sounded insanely bad, sadly. They were obviously having the A-team plug along on Scalebound and Nier Automata at the time.

I have heard great things about their two (?) Transformers games though and as a G1/Beast Wars fan, I definitely want to check them out eventually.

Yeah, they've barfed out some iffy ones, too. That Korra game was pretty meh by all accounts as well.

I've owned it for a while and actually just got around to playing it last week.

I really enjoyed it. It is quite short, but I don't mind that. I ran through the whole thing as Optimus, but I could see myself returning to it and playing as somebody else. The combat was really fun and I love the look of it.

You made me google that TMNT game. Indeed it looks horrible. And it's a great shame, since it looks like it was aiming to be similar to Tranformers Devastation, and instead they made a dud. I don't get why they made their very own models for the turtles though, if they were banking on nostalgia. Though I don't think the 80s cartoon lends itself for a good modern game. I just saw the characters in the crossover episode with Nickelodeon's TMNT show, and well....it's just too corny for an adult to bear.

I really recommend this Transformer game to you though Xeogred. We have really similar taste (I think I've only seen us disagree on games once during my years on racketboy) and this is the best game I've played in 10 months imo.

You just gave me the idea to replay this game with each individual character :D. Maybe I'll even go for the platinum trophy, just to give myself a challenge to work towards.

They didn't.

The game, and the designs, are based on the current comic book series being published by IDW.

It's an excellent series by the way, and has elements of the many different turtles canons rolled into one awesome new story. :D If you have any interest in comics and the turtles, you ought to check it out.

It's been running for a few years now though, so there's a bit to catch up on. The main series is on #70 now, but there have been various spinoff issues and minis to accompany that.

This was a good reminder that I should go back to Revengeance as I really did like that combat style (and also have Bayonetta now on WiiU).

Vanquish is added to my 360 want list.

I nearly bought Devastation the other day, trying to snag it as cheap as possible.

Devastation is pretty damn fun. Short game tho and weird trophy system if you care about that. TMNT I blame on Activision. I would like to see PG take on TMNT again but without Act. Maybe Nintendo or Sony. Base it on the 80s cartoon.
