Trying to round out my PS3 collection...

Post by Forlorn Drifter »

I'm just trying to get a solid list somewhere of what I should look into. My current collection is:

3D DOT GAME HEROES
Bioshock
Bioshock Infinite
Dishonored
Doom Classic Complete
Dragon's Crown
Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen (may not keep)
Far Cry 3
God of War 1&2
Heavy Rain
Hitman: Absolution (may be sold post-platinum)
Ico
Infamous 1&2
Mass Effect Trilogy
Max Payne 3
Red Dead Redemption
Rogue Legacy
Shadow of the Colossus
Shovel Knight
Sly Cooper Collection (may not keep)
The Last of Us
XCOM: Enemy Unknown

Previously Owned:
Dante's Inferno (didn't grab me)
Dead Space 1&2 (possible rebuy, burned out on these very quickly)
Deadly Premonition (good, but not one I'd like to play again, the controls/gameplay just weren't full enough for me)
Fallout 3 (still didn't get into this one... 4 might just be the one to grab me)
Hitman Collection (possible rebuy, possibly not.)
LA Noire (will rebuy, just don't know when)
Skyrim (possible rebuy, just have to be in the right mood)
Splatterhouse (good, just didn't see much replay value)

Looking at:
Catherine
Vanquished
Hotline Miami
XCOM: Enemy Within (just an expansion, IIRC)
Devil May Cry collection
MGS Collection (kinda wavery here, I here terrible and great things about MGS 4)
God of War 3 & Ascension
Mirrors Edge
The Katamari Game (Don't know name)
Arkham Games?
Souls games possible, but unlikely
Nier

I'm just looking for any suggestions or obvious must haves that I'm currently missing. Hopefully, giving my list of haves and previously haves I could give y'all a little to go off of. I would like to NOTE- if it has a remastered release on PS4, I'll probably grab it there, unless I already have it, such as the Uncharted games, or the Metro games.

So, any help guys? Or any questions relating to haves I have/have owned?

Demon's Souls.

Vanquish is getting rare now. Good luck. Grab it if you see it for cheap locally.

Devil May Cry collection is one of the best HD collections I've played.

"Souls games possible, but unlikely" DON'T GIVE ME THAT

Nier is really good and fucked up.

If you've never played Arkham Asylum, do that.

Hm, well, it's kind of a huge category at this point...

For considerations, I would definitely go for the MGS Legacy Collection. MGS4 is hit or miss, but if you're a fan of the series it's got a lot of callback stuff that can be fun, and the collection version is the way to go for it. The PS3 - at least so far - is a great place to consolidate most of the series, to boot (can still play disc copies of MGS/VR missions versus the download codes).

I would possibly consider some of the downloadable game collections:
Best of Playstation Network vol. 1 has Tokyo Jungle
There's also Journey CE, though that does seem to have a PS4 port coming.

While it's not 100% great, Heavenly Sword is probably worth adding to a PS3 collection. Early exclusive with high production values with no ports, and dirt cheap used. LAIR maybe on similar merits.

Similarly, while it's not especially great, Hunted: the Demon's Forge is often quite cheap now, and is a fun enough dark sword and sorcery type romp. The main caveat with it is that it's heavily designed around being a coop game. You can play single player (as I did), but your AI partner may prove to be too good for the game to present a real challenge.

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow (possibly the second as well). Assuming you don't want to play them on PC. PS3 has the collection version, which rolls in the DLC for the first game (which has the real ending), and the console port of Mirror of Fate.

El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron seems like one that may never get remastered. Child of Eden is possibly more likely, but with how cheap it is now might be worth picking up anyway. If nothing else, it might justify a Move

I would at least get Demon's Souls for the 'souls games. PS3 exclusive n' all that.

Check out the Way of the Samurai and Yakuza series. There might be some stuff there that interests you.

You're missing the best PS3 game ever released:

Also get Vanquished ASAP. It is truly an astounding experience mechanically, the best third person shooter I've ever played.
PLAY KING'S FIELD.

Actually had Demon's Souls, may come back. As for the rest, its just a shrug because I hate grinding in games, or games where I have to scour wikis to figure out how the hell to do something, which so far has been my experience with the Souls games.

Vanquish getting rare? Shit. I can never find the PS3 Version, and the one time I did it didn't have a case, and the disc looked risky.

Good to go on Devil May Cry then.

Actually 100%ed it on 360, just wasn't sure if I want to go back. I was thinking of waiting and picking up Knight on PS4, don't know how much of a story connection goes on though.

Hmm, I'll definitely consider the MGS Collection.
Best of PSN and Journey CE were somewhat on the radar, although I don't know if I want the rest of the games with Tokyo Jungle, might download it seperate.
Heavenly Sword! I knew I forgot something on my original list.
Hunted looks up my alley, but I hardly ever have anyone around to coop with. That's a maybe.
Castlevania interests me, but the flak it got from -vania purists and claims of being a GOW clone put me off.
El Shaddai... I know nothing about it. I'll give it a look.

Ack wrote:Check out the Way of the Samurai and Yakuza series. There might be some stuff there that interests you.

Way of the Samurai has my interest, but it seems to be highly unknown in the west, I can't find much info on it. Yakuza is a definite possibility, just a matter of finding it or ponying up and buying online.

Aquanauts Holiday? Eh... Doesn't seem my style, but I'll give it a look.
Hyperdimension: Neptunia? Never been big on JRPG's, but I'll give it a look. It's like Catherine though, I'd be a bit embarrassed to have it on my shelf.

And, some others I've noticed and considered:
The Darkness 1&2
Enslaved:Odyssey to the West
The Wolf Among Us
Some of the other collections, such as Ratchet & Clank, Jak & Daxter, Splinter Cell
Folklore?
I'm sure there's some other stuff.
