I might stop by a local game store and pick up Halo 1 and 2 for under $10 bucks for the pair, as I never actually put the time into those (only playing the first for a few minutes at most)

It seems like it is still a great time to pick up titles for the console, as a lot of them are the cheapest version from that generation when multi platform, and even "expensive" games are relatively cheap.

Yeah dude. This thread helped spark my interest and love for it again (the first system I bought with some lawn mowing allowance! haha). And I've been buying brand new sealed games for like $10-15, and picking up other stuff for dollars.

So I have my oXbox hooked up to my Trinitron CRT via component. System defaults to widescreen mode, cool, looks great. Question is - is component not 480p? I enable the 480p setting and the two games I've tested, which according to the wiki list support 480p, both come up garbled video and won't work.

If I keep it in widescreen with 480p off, they flip to 4:3 when you play them (understandable).

I mean the widescreen isn't ideal on a CRT anyway, but is there any upscaling the component does even in 4:3? No space for the oXbox on my flatscreen setup in the office.

Component can display as 480i or 480p (or 240p!). You probably need to monkey with the XBOX settings to change it to 480p.
Does your TV support 480p? If it's a Trinitron CRT, I'd wager not.

Component, as an interface, is capable of carrying a progressive signal, even 1080p in some cases (often not supported, but technically it can). I've used it on the X-Box on an HDTV and it works nicely.

The potential issue might be that far more TVs have component inputs than actually support progressive scan. You might want to look up your particular model and see. Using component for 480i is still good, but it's pretty much just a little nicer than S-Video.

Thanks to both, would appear the TV doesn't support. 480i though is an upgrade over how I first used the system at least!

Interestingly, both NFL 2k5 and Taito Legends went to widescreen, even on the CRT, with 480p off. Didn't look particularly good obviously!

Personally loved the Xbox. Aside from the SEGA games I loved PGR. I still need to get Metal Wolf Chaos.

Keeping the thread alive, here is a pic of my current oxbox collection (360 is on there too).

A couple games I don't think anyone mentioned on the thread,
Blackstone (4 player D&D type game)
Syberia 1 & 2(these got ported to ps3 also I think)
Stake (mmmmm....Steak)
Sudeki (JRPG/ARPG, I think)
Dai Senryaku (US released Japanese military tactical game)
VooDoo Vince (fun platformer)

Most of those at Xbox exclusive, at least in US they are.
