I did pick up the dual pack Monster hunter games. As for the Gta games I've beat both and personally found the controls to be good at best, but i would say it took away from the gameplay.

P.S for some reason, I can not bring myself to play Chinatown.

PSP is quite the awesome system. I won't mention any RPGs since I may own them but I just don't have the time to play them.

Anyways, here's just a few must-haves, there are honestly too many to list.

Burnout Legends/Dominator - Legends was an awesome "best of" Burnout that was exclusive to the PSP. Dominator was also released on PS2 but the PSP version is just as great.
Castlevania: The Dracula X Chronicles - Mainly for the unlockable Symphony of Night, however, the overall package is well worth it.
Darkstalkers Chronicles -Excellent fighting game that was a nice show-off piece for the PSP's awesome screen at launch.
Daxter - It's just an amazing game! Ready at Dawn really knew what they were doing with the PSP.
DJ Max Series -Challenging, great music, and fun to play. What more could you ask for?
Lumines I/II - Digital crack.
LocoRoco series - Great, unique experience.
Patapon series- Same as Loco Roco.

Then, throw in all of the Japan-only games and compilations as well as some killer ports like Parappa the Rapper and Gitaroo Man. PSP is just a monster of a handheld.

Just off the top of my head

Action platformers:

Maverick Hunter X - Some people here disagree, but I think it's an excellent Mega Man X remake, with a lot of great added content. You get your money's worth

Dracula X Chronicles - Just want to add that it is the only North American release of Dracula X: Rhondo of Blood, AND it comes with a remake version of it included. It also comes with what is, in my opinion (again, some people here disagree...and are wrong, but I digress), the definitive version of Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. Great value for your money

RPGS:

Jeanne D'Arc - A really good, really accessible, strategy rpg with a good story

Crisis Core - Cool action rpg with a real time combat system. It's really a game for hardcore Final Fantasy 7 fans though. You might not enjoy it otherwise.

Valkyrie Profile - Not a perfect port, but if you can't get the expensive, rare Playstation version, might as well go with this one.

Final Fantasy Tactices: War of the Lions - There are some porting issues, and a stupid multi-player mode, but it's still the same great game with some fantastic new animated cutscenes thrown in

Oh, and God of War Chains of Olympus if you really want to see what the PSP is capable of. That and the Grand Theft Auto games you mentioned really show off its muscle

Phantasy Star Portable
Phantasy Star Portable 2 - These two games offer some pretty good Action RPG gameplay. 2 has built in Wi-Fi online, which makes it even more enjoyable.
Ridge Racer - Great Racing Game
Metal Gear Solid Portable Ops
Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker
Metal Gear Ac!d.

I actually got a PSP myself a little while ago mostly for the racing games, but I'm curious to see if I've missed something else worthwhile.

Agreed, but I recommend tracking down Ridge Racer 2 instead, which includes pretty much everything from the first PSP game and adds some more. It was never released in the US, but tracking down the euro release shouldn't be difficult, and it's quite cheap as well.

And nobody seems to have mentioned Wipeouts Pure and Pulse yet.

I just bought my PSP off of a friend at work 2 days ago. System is in nice shape, with only minor wear, and included a case, charger + a Vice City Stories UMD. Here's what I have coming in the mail right now:

The 3rd Birthday
Castlevania: Dracula X Chronicles
Disgaea: Afternoon of Darkness
Persona 3 Portable
Lumines
CRUSH (some Sega-published puzzler that came free with Lumines)

Also got some screen protectors, and a 32gb card w/ pro-duo converter on their way to my home. I can't wait to actually play this thing, the tech is very impressive for the price; decided to get this instead of a 3DS XL for financial reasons.

Oh, and... *cough* viewtopic.php?f=26&t=41791
