I played the demo of the first one when it was released to PC. It was fun, but then I got The Last Revelation for Dreamcast, and the so-called "training" level irritated the heck out of me. I still have it, but don't play it. Then I found Legend on the PC, and after going through the first level of that, I wanted to know why all the other ones I played aren't as good as this? In my opinion, this is the quintessential TR in the series. What a somewhat jaded fan would EXPECT the games and the series to be like. I've also got it now on the Gamecube.

I actually enjoyed Last Revelation.

Anyway, to answer your question on Legend - that's one of the ones developed by Crystal Dynamics. CD did Legend, Underworld and the new one released this year. (They may have also done the Anniversary remake of TR1, I think?) Now that I played through TR2013, I'm looking forward to playing through the other CD-developed games. (I did play the first level of Legend w/ my wife a couple years ago, and thought it was good. But she wasn't into it as much and she ended up getting rid of it).

Last Revelation is good fun IMO, but I think Crystal Dynamics taking over the franchise was the best thing that could have happened. The only terrible Core Design game was Angel of Darkness (not coincidentally their last TR game), it was a buggy mess of a game and got too far away from what the spirit of the games were.

@noise, yes CD did Legend, Underworld, Anniversary and TR2013. Legend and Underworld are great, but it feels like they're still a little bogged down by the weight of the series, whereas the newest one felt like they were allowed to riff and do what they felt best. It was unfortunate that the story in Legend and Underworld felt like the first two parts of a trilogy, which seems doubtful they will go back to.

maybe I'll play Anniversary soon, seeing as how 2013 was a prequel.

When I saw it was a different developer, I knew that the other games would probably be just as good. Everything is on point in Legend. Better controls, inventory system, writing, dialogue, graphics, even the bonus medals and items to unlock more things is rewarding but not frustrating. I never got tired of jumping or swinging on those conveniently placed flagpoles on the Japan level, for instance.

How does it compare to UNcharted?

I just learned that the original is released on iOS, but the graphics look sharper than the screenshots of the Trilogy I got from GOG , is there some sort of a texture upgrade or something?

How does what compare to Uncharted? The Tomb Raider reboot?

Yes, I always heard Uncharted was the male version of Tomb Raider. I didn't play either game... yet

Well to me it seems clear that Tomb Raider was originally designed to be Indiana Jones with boobs. When Uncharted came out I think they were also looking more towards Indiana Jones as an inspiration than Tomb Raider, but I'm sure they looked at it for some traversal elements.

The first Uncharted was a more realistic take on the type of gameplay that Naughty Dog had done before, with fairly linear level progression and collectables. Plus they got an awesome writing team (part of which is Amy Hennig whom I adore) and voice actors to make memorable characters and pretty darn good Indiana Jones-esque adventure.

Now I think that it's come a bit full circle where I think the cinematic feel of TR2013 is influenced by Uncharted and then they really stepped up the gameplay and traversal stuff that the series is known for.

Bottom-line? Play Uncharted 1-3 and Tomb Raider (2013). All awesome.

Anyone know what kind of updates the "definitive" version for the PS4/XB1 will have? New weapons, additional areas to explore, new enemies?
