Valkyria Chronicles II

Post by Cronson »

Has anyone played it yet? I am loving it so far. Its got a very bit sized approach (much like MGS: Peace Walker) where you can complete a mission in 5 to 10 minutes.

Also, it supports Ad Hoc Mode! Weasels? Racketboy members? Anyone want to play some online multiplayer? I am a huge fan of coop in games so I'm eager to try this one out.

Were you a little disappointed in this one compared to the first one? I know by itself, it can be a great game, and I know it's a PSP game, but how's it stack up to the original? I'll just say I wasn't too psyched about this one.

I played the demo and I was pretty amazed at the depth of the game... I could only imagine the full game being great... Seriously, it doesn't look that much worse than the ps3 version... It's one of those games that will have you playing for hours.. The only downside is that it's 40 bucks correct?

I don't understand why people are so angry that the sequel is on the PSP. I think that it is a good idea to bring some part of a series to a handheld, as well as on a console. That's a trend I've noticed happening a lot with games on Sony platforms lately [Fat Princess, LittleBigPlanet, Motorstorm, Jak & Daxter, and even a reverse case of it in Syphon Filter!] and I love it. I hope that Sony recognizes this trend, and expands on it.

Are there any spoliers in the story of VC2? I'm still working my way through the first game.

I'm about 3 hours hours into VC2 and there is a spoiler that happens. I really don't think its a big deal though.

As for my impressions, I've taken two things away from playing:
1. Valkyria Chronicles II is Saved by the Bell: The New Class. Ok, I'm not trying to flame. The game has a younger class of kids, a slightly different style, and doesn't recreate the first game's charm as well. I'm really loving it though.
2. The watercolor/story book style isn't as predominant; it just uses an anime style instead. I mean, it's the same art as the first game, the watercolor filter is gone though. I think I heard the PSP couldn't handle that effect that was in the first game.

So VC II is out, I might give it a shot some time. The first one was cool, but I hated the randomness of whether or not your attacks would hit. Very frustrating in a game where ever action counts, especially when going for S ranks. Course, I'm rather sick of random elements in rpgs in general, but that won't change. If the genre STILL hasn't grown up, it never will

Still, loved the story, cutscenes, characters and visuals in the first one. Good music too

Somehow I doubt the sequel can match up in those areas, but we'll see. So does this mean they are finally done releasing DLC for the first one?
