PSP 2.6 --> 1.5

Post by Saraph »

Hello all, I'm a recent owner of a PSP and would like some heavy duty advice. ^^

The version I have is 2.6, which by what I've read, is not only a crappy version, but I cannot play downloaded games with it. So I'd like to downgrade, yet I can't because I do not own GTA: LCS. Anyways, if anyone has advice on how to downgrade 2.6 - 1.5, or even a great tutorial that I can read that would make me go out and rent the game just to downgrade, please let me know. Also, I'm very new to this system, so if anyone has any advice on playing AVI's and MP3's, plus games once it's downgraded, let me know!

I have been looking into getting a PSP myself (Since they came out lol), Please let us know how you like it when you figure it all out!

The emulation capabilities are really great on the PSP, Here is a link for some emulators.

I will look up some of the old sites that I found for downgrading and post them here for you. Good luck! :D

I believe you need to buy a copy of Liberty City GTA

I would try this link, it says its a 2.5/2.6 downgrader, but I have no idea of its authenticity other than its from a site that I trust and have gotten many good things from that I have personally used.

I think you may need to buy liberty city stories and do the save game hack if you dont get that to work. I am not sure about this, since I got rid of my PSP a while ago, and it was a 1.5 from day one. But I do remember that people said they could go from a 2.6 to a 1.5 if they used the save game hack, think of it as buying a game and getting a modchip at the same time. Obviously look around before you do anything drastic like purchase anything or flash your bios which could brick your expensive PSP.

Here are some good links to research:

I read at some PSP site that if I didnt have a 1.5 PSP to start with, then it's useless to try to downgrade it to that. Has anyone else encounted this problem before?

You can downgrade from 2.6. Just don't upgrade to anything higher. Google is your friend.

PSP Updates is pretty much THE news source for anything PSP related. While I have problems with the fact that they often do not credit their sources, it is still a good place for all info:
