After talking about the Neptune Mod, I couldn't help but wonder how feasible it would be to develop an AC adapter/power supply that would only require only normal outlet for a stock Genesis, 32X, and Sega CD.
Any thoughts?
Single Power Adapter for Genesis/32X/Sega CD?
Yes, it should be easily possible. I don't know what the 32X and CD run on, but the Genny I own, and its a 1.2A 9V adapter.
The problem would be amount of current provided; easiest way to do it IMO is to use a laptop power supply (something from the P4 era, so a lot of juice), and use LM78xx regulators to feed whatever voltage needed. Total cost, if you shop for the laptop adapter right, around $30 or so.
Then you wire up the outputs from the regs straight to where the barrel DC jacks would be on the consoles, with some caps for debounce, and voila, done. Eating power from one adapter and one wall outlet.
