nintendo arcade gun on nes?

I've got a nintendo arcade gun from a nintendo choice-10 cabinet. Since the cabinet uses nes games (although I know in a different format) I was wondering if it would be possible to use that lightgun on the nes if you soldered the cord for an nes zapper to the arcade gun.

Any ideas?

this is about converting a saturn gun to work on an arcade board, but trust me, it should give you a good idea of what you need to do if what you want to try is possible
