I still play PS1 games every so often. And no, it wouldn't matter now because I have a PS2. But someday we won't. And I only hope the PS4 and PS5 continue to be backwards compatible, 'cause someday I'm going to want to play FF7 again.

And you're not going to be able to just slap on an EE chip because Sony's not just going to leavean empty spot on the board with leads for you. :) They're going to redesign the board accounting for the fact that its not there anymore.

Correct me if I'm wrong(which I may well be) but isn't this how the PS2 already works? The PS1 CPU is still there but routes it's graphics though the PS2 graphics chip? And isn't that what they plan to do with the PS3? Or am I way off base?

EE'N'GS and EE+GS are both for PS2 games ONLY. The PS1's cpu is used in the PS2 as the I/O controller. This is why some of the backwards compatability isn't 100%, considering not all the games can still use that architecture. I don't believe the PS1's CPU is in the PS3, btw. I know the EE+GS is in at least the older PS3's though. But, the backwards compatability on the PS3 w/ EE+GS seems pretty good. So if you want one, just buy it now... :?

I'm counting on PS2 emulators on the PC to improve for numerous reasons. Any of you with an LCD/Plasma TV will appreciate that the signal needs to be at least progressive and if possible at the TVs native resolution. I don't see Sony ever doing that right until the PS2 is completely emulated in software on PS3.

Funny you say this, as the emulation may involve that soon.

I like to have low expectations. I'd buy a PS3 for that screenshot alone.

Considering I don't care about the PS3, I have high expectations. If Sony fails in emulating in 720p, it won't effect me whatsoever.

What is so bad about how PS2 games play on a PS3? Is it jerky? jittery? crashes? Incompatibility? I have no reason to buy a PS3, but playing PS1 games on a PS2 worked great, kind of curious to how badly the PS2 games run on a PS3.
